I doubt he comes on here... but I just thought I'd mention this.

Bought a new starter motor... after thinking it's a two bolt, slide out, bolt new one in jobby.

Realised the errors of my way when there's a bloody sprocket to attach it to which won't stay in place... engine side case off job... forget THAT on my driveway. Cue me raging hard as I now have a hole in the side of my engine.

Friends with the guy who runs the local bike garage but it's 3 miles away... so I had to bump start it. Got to bottom of the road... no joy. Every direction is now uphill Shocked

Pushed it to the petrol station, where a nice guy (who happened to be a biker) offered to give me a push to try in the flat petrol station car park, still no joy. Then he offers to push me UP a hill and then back down, where it doesn't start the first time, so he pushes me UP the hill again, and back down, where it finally starts at the bottom.

This was one hell of a steep hill, too!

There are some nice people out there! Starter motor is now fitted and working, oh how you miss that button when it doesn't work...

Thumbs Up well done, and a round of applause to your good samaritan Smile
while I am here, and on the subject, the knowledge of the forum is required.....How easy, if at all possible would it be to fit a kick start to a bike that is not fitted with one. ( might be a dumb question I know! ) I'm not sure why manufacturers stopped installing them in the first place, it's a good back up under these circumstances and more............any ideas!!!! Thumbs Up

It would be somewhere between very difficult to impossible to do. It coul never be in the form of a bolt-on kit if that's what you're thinking of, some serious machining and altering would be required.

Oh how I miss the crank handle on my car.... oh, wait, no I don't because it's archaic and mostly irrelevant on increasingly reliable vehicles with a plethora of breakdown options. Wink

I have a bike with a kick-start (only) and one with a motor. Whilst there's a certain smug satisfaction in kicking a bike into life on the first swing, I'll take the motor thank you. It's not like a bike is that hard to bump start.

you wouldn't say that kicking a big single, when it decides to either remove a chunk of your shin, or throw you up into the air Sad
