Evening all

I have finally managed to get my hands on a new Honda CBF125, after much haggling with the dealer i've managed to get £300 knocked of the list price and a free helmet chucked in with it. All good.

Now before I can get the thing on the road I have to sort the insurance. I have had a 50cc scoot for 6 years and so have a 6 year no claims bonus, am 28 almost 29 years old and will be riding on L Plates with a CBT. Having got a few insurance quotes using price comparison sites my quotes are coming back at prices that I cant believe are correct. I live in a low crime area and the bike will be garaged at night but fully comp i'm being quoted £160 with a £250 excess, is this usual or am I right to be concerned i've entered details incorrectly?

Cheers

Sounds about right. If you call the insurance company direct they will normally give you a better price as you don't pay the comparison site's commission.

Also, try and go to insurance companies that specifically deal with bikes. Another reason may be because you have been riding a 50cc for 6 years and have no experience riding anything bigger, so going straight to 125cc, to an insurance company, is a bigger risk as you have never been over 30mph.

Hi, my post wasn't as clear as it should have been, I am surprised the quote is as low as it is, I was expecting it to be more expensive!! Will definitely call the insurance company though rather than let the meerkat scumbags have my money Wink

With 6 years riding experience on a ped, I would book your tests and get rid of the 125 and get something decent, the money you will save alone on insurance will be worth while. 125 are generally more expensive than a 500 / 600 to insure.

Finally somebody remembered to put relevant details in their question! Smile Thumbs Up

The compulsory excess is unfairly high, but it's what I'd expect. £160 is a very sensible price considering you are still on L-plates, but then I'm wondering how can you have SIX years of no-claims? Your provisional motorcycle license expires after 2 years and then you have to re-take the CBT; did you take three CBT's?

Check the small print and make sure the 6 years no-claims bonus is valid.

Try rampdales, I think £160 is pretty damn cheap, that's like half the price of a newbies insurance
