Make a .txt
type:
shutdown -r -c "This computer is shutting down due to an ugly cunt using it"
Save as anything.bat
Add to startup folder

Profit?

The use of the acronym 'ICT' irks me.

Never hear it outside a school - and I worked in a company that appended 'CTI' (Computer Telephony Integration) and it was still never used - IT is just fine, ta.

Ever see anyone typing stuff into the command prompt? That's the little black window with white writing in it. It's kind of like a DOS emulator for Windows. DOS stands for disk operating system and it's what Microsoft computers were like before they invented Windows.

You can type commands into it that run Windows commands (like copy a file, delete, start a certain application as well as much more powerful stuff) and, behind the scenes, this is what Windows will be doing when you do stuff with the mouse. The ability to do this is useful because you can create a .bat (batch) file which contains one or more of these commands and then you can run those commands by firing off your batch file, or scheduling it or whatever. The command that Alpha-9 suggested is a shutdown with a humourous message.

Windows will run, on startup, anything that's placed in its startup folder. So basically what you'd be doing would be telling the PC to shut down again as soon as it started up.

If your mate considers himself to have l33t IT skillz because he's used Excel a bit and plays solitaire in his lunch hour this will probably upstage him a bit.

Naturally, if you want to use the PC again you'll have to know how to undo it.

I don't know if it was just local or an emergency services thing, but when I did IT for the Fire Service we were the ICT dept. Mainly as we covered the lot as it all had to be tightly integrated. So it does have a place Smile
That said I see your point, but it made it easier for the users to understand.

The fact you have a 'mate who is a programmer' and you've thought WELL YOU CAN FIX MY PC shows what kind of guy you are Laughing

if(Broke){Fix}else{Fucked}
if(Fucked){HireProfessional=1}else{HireProfessional=0}

you'll often find the answer to the problem is on google, and he'll do nothing different but google it
but the fact you don't know what a .txt is says something about your experience! It's just a filetype, usually created with Notepad.exe

Good luck Thumbs Up

You could always post the problem here to see if we can halp Wink

Hmm... your mate is coming around to fix your laptop for you, for free, because you don't know how to, and you want to greet him with something wrong or disgusting?

Personally, if you did that to me after I was spending my time helping you out, I'd do two things:
Arrow Do something even worse back to you, such as disconnecting your wireless card
Arrow Leave your house, leaving the laptop in its messed up state

Another spin, we're branded as 'CIT' - 'Central/Corporate IT' or as it was changed to soon after the branding exercise 'Cunts In Trouble'.
