Been thinking about buying a really cheap bike for a turbo project. Cheap for money sake and because its kind of a learning exercise for me too as I want to try it all myself where possible.

So what do you think? Is it possible, what sort of budget should I set and what kind of bike should I get? I was thinking of a non sports bike

Forget finish, I probably won't make it to the start line Laughing

Just something to think about at least!

Depending on how much you want to spend and what you are looking for try the bike breakers local to you, they have project bikes that are usually quite cheap.

Why turbo?

It's going to cost you a 'LOT' of money, certainly running into £1000's to get a turbo fitted & running.

Why not N2O something, anything . . . a th'cooter even?

Rubbish - I did a right nice job of it for just £1600 using mostly new parts. I reckon if I tried hard I could do it for less than £200.

Bandit; Busa ZZR, are the usual candidates aren't they? Heard of some-one that blew a CBR1000 'jelly-mould'.

For the 'learning' why not a Turbo Chink, like Chris's Death Weapon?

Pete is going to annihilate you here Laughing £1600 for what he has currently is pretty good going considering turbo-ing the car cost £2500+ for the basic single turbo setup Laughing

No he's saying that £1600 to turbo a bike is cheap compared to the £2500 it costs for a basic set up for a car.

If Pete says he could turbo a bike for £200 I'm certain that he could. To be fair i don't think chrises turbo bandit has cost all that much money. He's mostly spent cash on making it look pretty and other engine modifications too. Most bits he's scavenged or made himself.

A B12's the obvious choice. Pick one up for a grand and go to town. Don't even have to blow it to get decent power.

I'm quite tempted to give it a whirl myself sometime.

Nothing but. That was intentional btw, it's a running joke on another forum I'm on, so I figured I'd introduce it. Wink

Chris's death weapon £185 turbo sounds good! Laughing

How much would a Bandit project cost? Can it be done on a 600?
