Hi guys, i've just joined the forum after recently aquiring my first CG125 ! Hello All

I gave my GC125 with 2001 plate a good service today, and adjusted the valve clearances to what the handbook says it should be 0.08mm. i used a feeler gauge. I had to do the adjustment because the rockers were getting really noisy. Now i've done it the thing wont turn over for longer than 5 seconds, its a kick start and as it stands the battery is flat.
When it turns over for a few seconds the neutral light comes on. so i know the fuse is ok. Fuel ok too. Could it be the spark plug? i don't have a socket to remove it yet, any help appreciated

Did it work fine before you did the clearances? it is possible that you have done them too tight.

My old CG was very funny at starting - needed choke on 1st setting every time. Don't know if that'll be the same with a newer (improved!) model.

I thought the newer ones had electric ignition Confused

I checked the fuel - the stuff is visible with tank open
I checked the spark plug - OK with 0.8mm gap
Battery is flat - not too worried about that as bike is kickstart

Valve clearances set to 0.08mm using blade with slight resistance as manual says.

Bike will still not tick over, i've given up for tonight.

The bike had been covered in garden for 1 week whilst i was on holiday.

Could it be water in the fuel ? especially if been outside this week... the weathers been pretty atrocious (down here at least !), or crap in the carb ?

Retro - have you ever adjusted your rockers ? do you have the haynes service manual ? i'm just interested to know what the procedure is as the honda manual is very vague!

Cheers

First off charge the battery then:

Clean the plugs (bit of rag actually betwean the two points)
Give it a few kicks without the plug in
Turn the fuel onto reserve
tap the carb a few times with a hammer
put the plug back in
turn the choke on full
kick it up

It should fire up after that. A flat battery will likely cause it to fire up from the kickstart, but then quickly die as the battery has insufficient power to keep the spark going

Tappets on the cg are pritty loud so you will know when they need doing again! it could also mean your oil is getting low (suppriseing how much difference from min to max)

I remember being quite disshartened when i first got mine and could only start it every other attempt (it was sitting at my sister house for a few weeks, every couple of days i'd think of an excuse to go and furiously rub my legs in anticipation of life on two wheels..) the choke had to be just right...

One warning about the neutralk light, just because its on dosen't mean your not in gear! just be carefull of it Wink

Welcome to the forum and have fun with the cg, its a fantastic little bike, i really do wish i still had mine...
