Howdy,

I'm thinking of getting this bike next year (subject to dosh and insurance)

https://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2010models/2010-Hyosung-GV250AquilaFIc.jpg

However, it has no rear rack for a top box unless I fork out £150 Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

So, I might opt for a set of pannier bags. However, does anybody know how to secure them to stop them from getting pinched??

Hard Luggage, will normally lock to the rack, bolted to the bike.
Soft 'Throw-Overs'.. can be more easily 'lifted'.
Old fasioned ones you had to sit on, and couldn't really leave on the bike, if there was any risk of an opportunist walking off with them; so you had to do a John Wayne impression and chuck them over your shoulder, looking like Gun-fighter come to town!
More modern ones have broad multi-adjustable straps, and if the bikes convenient to it, you can put he straps UNDER the seat and lock the seat down on top.
Left the cheap throw-overs on my CB like that for months on end, and they were never tampered with.
BUT... as said, there's no sure fire way to stop some-one having them away.

Locking the straps under the seat and getting a sensitive alarm are the only things you can do

Do you need to take pillions at the same time?

For commuting I've just put the top box on the rear seat in the past - you might want to get a spare rear seat to make holes in. On a sports bike it means it's still pretty compact and doesn't have something sticking out of the back for tight filtering.

Do what 90% of other cruisers do. Don't ride the bike just wank over it then polish it.

Or you could kill two birds with one stone (more luggage space, less embarrassment) and buy a Honda Deauville?

Nobody has ever fucked with my bike luggage when I've left it parked up through the day.

I suspect theft of bike luggage is a made up problem. I left my luggage on the bike and helmet on top of the front mudguard when I was doing my tour of Britain and I visited some fairly dodgy places.

I had pretty much everything I owned at that point attached to the bike and there was nothing stopping someone walking away with it. Nobody did.

I had a pair of Throw-overs lifted off the bike once; popped into my Uncle's Pup, in backwater village of rural Warwickshire to drop of some photo's; came back, no bags! BASTARDS!

Mind you, the BIKE was nicked three times! And Once some 'considerate' tea-leaf relieved me of the front brake hose while it was parked up! I say 'considerate' they only wanted the hose. After removing it, they screwed the banjo bolts AND the copper washers back into the master cylinder & caliper!

Someone once nicked the HT leads off my Jawa.

You have no idea how long I kicked the fucking thing over for before I noticed.

I presume you've read the by now legendary internet rant about stolen sparkplugs?
