If I do decide to purchase a 500cc bike (I hear the law is changing to 47 bhp for an A2 licence), my next job would be to restrict it.
It is against the terms of my licence to ride the bike unrestricted, however can I actually ride the bike from the previous owner to my house, then from my house to the mechanic who will fit the kit? If not it seems a bit silly to tow the bike around? |
The A2 licence group currently DOES NOT EXIST.
If you currently have a full A entitlement with <25Kw until xx/xx/200XX restriction endorsement, that 33bhp restriction WILL remain until the expiry date.
It is not an A2 licence, and the 47bhp restriction that will be imposed by that group, when it is introduced next year, will NOT be awarded to A -33 licences....
If you think that is a bit of a bastard, count your blessings; if you want to higher restriction, you would also be lumbered with it permanently, and have to take another test under DAS rules to left it!
As for riding unrestricted bike to the mechanics... Sorry. Your licence entitles you to ride a bike up to 33bhp, end of. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

There's currently no such thing as an A2 license. It's a new category being introduced next January. At the moment, there's A1 (125, 11kW), A <= 25kW (and <= .16kW/kg), and A (whatever you want).

Not legally, no.

Many laws are silly. Many silly laws get ignored. You never, ever exceed the speed limit? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

No you cannot ride it on any public road unless it is restricted to comply with your license, if you are stopped and you say:
"But I'm just riding it to the mechanic who is restricting it!".
They'll still shaft you with driving otherwise than in accordance with your licence.
Either get it towed (hopefully on a trailer! !), take it in a van OR get someone with a full licence to ride it there as long as they are correctly insured for it.
It's a pain, but that's how it is. ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

Just ride it, don't be a lemon and do over a ton.
Sit at speed limits or at same speed as moving traffic. I never got pulled in the 2 years I rode unrestricted I also crashed once |

I've just sorted a 33bhp bike for No1 son (Assuming he passed his mod 2)...
I searched on ebay for 33bhp restrictors. Most are restricted airflow type made by Kickstart engineering in Nottingham for about £40. Once I knew I could get a cheap restrictor then I bought a bike to match those that were available.
The restrictors are really easy to fit.
I put a short video on youtube to show fitting
