A london dealer has just sold this bike; apparently it's manufactured for the track and has parts and bits worth thousands of pounds...

PS. How do I upload a picture in my post where it's readily viewable, rather than readers having to 'Download' the pic in order to view it?

Its an unregistered Desmosedici RR, judging by the zero mileage. This bike is teh sex! Only 1500 made - I think. Question

I would buy if I had 65k spare Laughing

I'm a little in the dark and need enlightenment:

For £65k, what will this bike do that a stock R1/Ducati 1198 or any other hot bike can't?

Its a road legal version of the desmosedici motogp bike. The bike is basically a fucking ledgendary tool IMO. Full carbon fibre bodywork, Marchesini wheels, and 180bhp!! Nom!!

Philistine.

It's a technical exercise. Similar to the NR750 that Honda made. It was the first time anyone's made an effort to make a moto gp bike road legal. It also sports 16.5 inch wheels IIRC.

65k is overpriced you can get them for about 30k but that's probably because it's time for the 24 hour service (not joking) Laughing

There was one of these at the dealers where I worked, stared at it for ages but never got to hear it Crying or Very sad

EDIT: just seen the pic, I was allowed to touch it so there!

Lush bikes, I was lucky enough to have a go on one last year, as a mate of a mate has got one.

When they start up, they sound proper strange. It kinda 'winds' up as it's starting.

I agree with the coment about it being a stupidly overpriced bike however.
To myself, and 99.9% of any riders I know, this will offer no advantages over an R1, or new GSXR1000 etc, other than increasing the chances of getting burgled!

Is 65k overpriced for a new one with zero miles?? I would assume that as it has not got any miles on it it would still have the 3 year manufacturer warranty that was given with these bikes? Question

Although I am most probabaly wrong Laughing

I think for a collector 65k is nothing for a bike in this condition, and if kept in the same condition is kinda like a savings investment.

About 5 years ago I toyed with the idea of buying a Lancia Delta Integrale Evo 1. It seemed like a lot of money at the time but if I had have done I'd have more than tripled my investment - of course assuming I didn't need to spend triple the purchase price on it to stop it rusting into the floor.

Ducati desmos where 40k initially. You can buy one with 1600 miles on it for about 35k, so in all 65k for probably the last unregistered example is spot on.

Besides which, a bike is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. In this case, this bike is worth 65k.

The bike was a proper stand alone model featuring a fair amount of MotoGP technology that ducati made because they could. Much like the Veyron of Bugatti fame. Terrible business plan, awesome vehicle.

For £65k I'd want a lifetime warranty, free servicing and a blowjob every time I took it in for a free valet.

If i could afford it, i'd buy it. They're only going to get more rare as time goes by and they're very rarely up for sale anyway.

What do they do that a new ducati doesn't?
Have a V4 engine with the motoGP sounds, and look like the motoGP bike. That might not sound like much, but it's the only bike on earth that offers it.

Personally i'm surprised given how quickly they all sold, that ducati haven't brought out a new one with 2012 bodywork and a rossi replica paint job. They could sell them @ £65k new and have a thousand sold before they'd made the first one.

I doubt they made much money out of them. It's a totally unique bike for a 1500 production run. The tooling to sale costs would be enormous, even at 40k each. You are looking at a possible maximum return of £6,000,000 which probably wouldn't even go to covering the development and tooling cost for this bike.

Incidentally one got crashed a while ago, Ducati quoted £12,000 for a bit of bodywork. I'm guessing they'd have to remake the molds for that sort of cash.

The main issue is this, would you want a bike purely for the exclusivity of the thing? You've got the NR750 all over again, the bike is outrageously priced and massively exclusive, but would most likely be walked over by a Panigale 1199S. The 1199 would also likely be more refined.

And that's exactly it. Buy a bike to ride versus buying it to stare at. What floats one persons boat isn't the like of another.

If i could afford it i would have it just to say i have it. Just because another wouldn't doesn't make either view any less relevant really
