Im on the hunt for a new bike and have narrowed it down to either the 750 or the 1000 gsxr. My budget stretches to a K3 or K4 model.

What are the significant differences between the 2 in perfomance, handling, weight, size etc?

I rode a K3 GSXR1000 over the weekend which felt superb, It obviously felt a lot bigger than my NC30, but I felt confident on it.

The only problem I have is insurance, £350 FC for the 750, £880 FC for the 1000 Laughing

I really would prefer the lesser insurance however the GSXR1000 blew me away, it was a stunning bike to ride. Would I notice the difference on a 750?

I've got a 750 and still haven't been able to max it out, and I ride fast where I can. 1000, definitely over kill, depends how lazy you want to be though I suppose. My dad always said his ZK4 1000 was the nicest bike he ever had.

I say the 750, You will be able to rag it in more places,

And possibly keep your license for longer...

This is true. When I was on the gsxr1000 over the weekend, I was riding it down the M3 thinking I was doing about 70ish, I look down and the speedo reads 107 Embarassed

It just wanted more all the time, and it was sooo smooth and responsive, it was incredible. I love it Wub

What's your budget?

The K5/K6 GSXR1000 is more compact feeling than the K3/K4.

There's not a massive amount in it between the 750 and 1000 weight wise, but the 750 of the same year does tend to feel a little friskier handling wise due to a few bits relating to having less power.

K4/5 750. I had one, great bike. Should be ridden like a big 600, not a small thousand.

Thumbs Up

I've had a 750 for about a month, cos of the weather i only used it for the third time this weekend. Was grinning from ear to ear for the full two hours! Great bike, just builds confidence.

I can stretch to £4000 but more if I either PX my bike or sell it (Which I dont want to do either)

Im feeling the 750 maybe the most sensible option. Confused But want 1000 Evil or Very Mad

I've ridden both a 750 and a 1k.

Still prefer the 750, feels lighter to me..handles like a 6 but pulls like a 1k, obviously a bit slower. Still haven't maxed it out yet, seen 171 though Laughing

From all reports I have read/seen/heard I would go for the 750 as it is termed the "best of both worlds." It takes the lightness and flickableness (is that a word?) of the 600 and combines it with the power (almost) of the 1000.

I'd go for the 750, the insurance would save (a smidgen).

After owning a K1 6 and K2 Thou I'd have a 750 give the choice.

Well I have decide to be sensible and go with the 750 although G gave me a tempting offer Laughing

It seems silly to pay all £900 insurance when I can it get for less than £400. Maybe next year will see my insurance drop as il be over 25 with 2 years ncb (hopefully).

I dont think I would ever ride the 1000 to its full potential as I have nowhere near enough experience yet. (Probably the same with the 750 in all honesty). But I fancy a change and am in the posistion to be able to get another bike and keep the NC30. Thumbs Up

EDIT: What year should I be looking at for the 750? IE is a K4 better than a K5 etc??

K4/5 are mechanically identical IIRC, it's only the colour scheme which is different. Personally, I favoured the K5 for this regard.

Must be blue/white. Anything else is not a proper Gixer. Anyone who disagrees is a ghey.

Thumbs Up

No one rides a 1000c bike, and possible not even any bike, on the road to its potential and lives to tell the tale if they keep doing it.

I currently have a GSXR K4 and find it more than enough for the road, if you are wanting increased midrange of the thou, then do as I and many others have done by getting a +2 sprocket on the rear, gives the bike more poke through the range, with the handling of the 600.

these bikes are still good enough to tear around with the more modern machines all day long (really it comes down to rider skill), but you won't regret buying it.

i have had a few 1000cc bikes in the past and to be honest feel that this bike is a little more fun on the twistier stuff, but not so great for long motorway runs compared to the thou (still perfectly fine though)

the K4/5 is stil regarded by GSXR fans to be the best looking of the range too!

these bikes can be easily upgraded to fantastic standards with the addition of a brembo MC, braided lines, R1 calipers and a plus 2 tooth rear sprocket.
