Found an old monitor (Iiyama 19 inch Prolite) when moving house... didnt think it worked, but plugged it in and shaazaaam it works.
I now have 2 x 19 inchers.

Set it up so I now have a big desktop stretched across .... was exciting for the first 30 seconds... but I now find I dont actually use the right hand desktop.. so it kind of sits there and does nothing.

What can I do ?
Any fancy apps that make use or sense of a 2nd screen ?
What do you do with yours ? Ideas ?
How do I adjust the colour / contrast settings for each on individualy?

Thanks

I put full screen videos on one and browse on the other

Or play games in windowed mode on one and use the other to browse youtube/change music whilst playing

Or play Supreme Commander, which splits the game onto 2 screens

If you don't need it don't use it

Personally I need the additional space now, i've gotten used to having it...

Also good for forex trading, can have my charts open on the other window
Generally duel screens is for practicability (lol thats a word honest) rather than for the sake of it to look cool

Just use one and give me the other Thumbs Up

Colour contrast - There's this really old technology called buttons, you can find them on the monitor Laughing

Yeppers.

Yes I am aware of the buttons on the monitor.

However, like public transport, I dont care for using them.
Perhaps I can hire someone to do things like press buttons etc.

Someone like me, i've been told i'm good and pushing people's buttons Cool

You can probably change the colour settings on your GPU program like catalyst control centre.

Depends on your OS and spec etc.
If youre on win7 right clicking desktop and screen resolution gives you some options for duel screen Thumbs Up

Smile

I use two monitors at work all the time, usually have html code text screen on one and switch between source material, sql enterprise manager or web page view on the other.

that or source material on one screen with document i'm writing on other, or even just having mailbox on one screen and emails opening onto the other is useful?

I usually use it for my Foobar 2000 playlist and a few overclocking tools to keep an eye on temperatures and voltages.

It's also handy for when your browsing and don't like having to switch between tabs.

Yep your right .... 2 screens are for nerds and speccy four eyes only.... guess I have no real need for the iiyama.

Down to the dump with it then.

Pretty much what alpha said, using one monitor now seems weird, I'm always looking for the one on the right to throw videos on or chat windows etc.

Video Editing - Have the bin and timeline etc in one monitor and the output in another

Audio Editing - Have some mix of sequencer/mixer/piano roll/whatever in one monitor, plugins and other crap in another.

Geeky flight sims - Cockpit View in one (for geek+ span it across 3 monitors and use a TrackIR for quick 6DOF scanning the sky), instruments systems in another. I seem to recollect some flight nerd having something like 9 screens for FS2002/4/X a while back.

For most average users tho 2 screens is a bit pointless

i got a 24 and 21 inch screen connected to my main rig, i often have temp and load reading software running on the 21 while gaming. but if i am not gaming, i will have email on one screen and other stuff on the 24.

i also found that when i first set up 2 screens i didnt use the second screen much, however, using a single screen feel plain alien now. its handy when using source material to write programmes or couse work.

3 monitors FTW Cool (yes I know this makes me appear geeky and sad but I got my computer friend to set it up for me Laughing )

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_3035.jpg

I find it really useful when editing photos in photoshop to have photoshop on the middle monitor, all the files on the left monitor and the original photo on the right monitor.

It's also useful for music production software and video editing. Otherwise I have a dedicated MSN monitor, a dedicated browser monitor and a dedicated pr0n monitor Laughing Having just one monitor is really weird, especially when I'm trying to use photoshop.

As above, multi monitors is king for most forms of content production, it's not solely a nerd or gaming thing, although I did insist on twin displays during my level design days so yeah, it's certainly useful in those fields too Wink

I don't have a TV in my room. Rather I already had an LCD monitor (a good one) which cost me a fair bit a number of years ago.

I used this to play my PS3 on with help from a HD Fury (the original one). I got a nice 720p, but the monitor wasn't good enough for 1080p.

Well that was okay for a year or two, but then I wanted to start watching TV too. Got myself one of these from Argos for about £40 then enjoyed watching digital TV through my PS3.

That worked well for ages until my PS3 decided to give up the ghost. Then I was stuck with no games and no TV. With a bit of research I found out you could get the PlayTV box working on Windows 7 Media Centre with very little effort. So I did that and connected the monitor up to the laptop (using HDMI).

tl;dr

I now use my second monitor as a digital TV.

I use one for 3D modeling and the other for photoshop, if I could be bothered (and if I got my old desk back up), I could sli my graphics card and plug another 2 in.

I have monitored temperatures when playing games and stuff too.

When I don't need 2 I don't switch the other one on, but it's also handy for tranferring stuff between folders (saves waiting that split second for the folder when dragging files to the title bar).

Autodesk 3DS MAX in one.

Autodesk Mudbox in the other.

And that's just when I'm working.

Limitless things you can do with 2 monitors.

I find it generally really helpful. Moar screens.

My setup.

Ultramon is a good addition if you're using multiple monitors. Wub smart taskbar for multiple reference windows.

The 19 incher ended up in the loft, four was overkill. Shifty

Day to day I have email and chat in the little one on my right, twitter searches and music/video to my left and whatever I'm doing in the middle. But sometimes its really useful to spread out what you're doing rather than keep switching windows.

The Mac just happened to be on while I was playing with my new lens, so it makes me look like even more of a tosser. Very Happy

My laptop's "17.3 and my Samsung is "19.

Both 1600x900 so plenty to keep me satisfied for now.
