i just don't get it,
it doesn't seem to have anything to do with dub at all,
(as far as i can tell)
and it seems like every video on youtube has a dubstep sound track,
do people actually dance to it??
i used to love dark drum and bass when i was younger, which dubstep sounds kind of like but with out the rhythm,

wtf am i missing??

Its an excuse for tallentless pricks to release music that has no flow, no rhythm and make money from it.

Terrible (losely named) music.

thats being going on for a generation though,
electronic music in general requires very little in the way of musical ability or skill,
its not that though,
i can understand dance music, with a constant beat etc
but dub step doesnt seem even to have that

Thats what I mean. At least Dance music has some kind of flow. Dubstep just seems so random. I'm not a fan of dance music at the best of times but would listen to that before dubstep any day of the week.

arhh i see,
i agree,

but there must be something in it that we "oldies" are just not seeing/understanding, otherwise surely no one would make/buy/listen to the stuff,

so com'mon young 'uns explain the error of our ways to us (well me any way)
im genuinely interested as to why people like dubstep

Dubstep producers have really taken the sound a long way from its origins. I had the misfortune to hear the latest 'Skrillex' track on the radio at 11am (I also had the misfortune of seeing him live in Ibiza) terrible music Neutral

I think I heard dubstep first in 2006 when 'dubstep warz' got aired on radio 1 by mary anne hobbs. It was rapidly spreading out of london, by 2008 most D&B nights had a second room or garden with dubstep blaring out.

Back then it was about sub-bass, dub, dark twisted sounds. No drops at all. It wasn't the sort of music you could listen to anywhere other than the early hours through a massive sound system.

Its the same as any genre, people within it come along and change certain parts to make it appeal to a mass audience. If you want to listen to dubstep you need to go and find it where it started.

I'm too old for that now though, you don't get skrillex on radio 4 Cool

Radio 1 keep battering this proper shit dubstep song at the moment.
I lack enough interest to even know the name of it.
But it breaks down in the middle, and some special needs person starts talking in broken sentances talking about "Machines". Laughing

Strange shit!

I hate it!

I've been into rock, metal and punk for over 30 years, and when I first heard dubstep I absolutely detested it, but there are some awesome metal remixes, which led me back to regular dubstep, which I now don't mind. If you check out YouTube for "metal dubstep", there's some incredibly heavy reworkings of mentally heavy songs that are just mindblowing. Each to their own I suppose...

Ok, I'll bite - that's a lovely broad and sweeping generalisation, care to expound upon your theory a little?

Laughing Suprised someone has'nt made a 'dubstep remix' of that! lol

I really like dubstep, old school mind - can't stand skrillex and all that shite that goes in really heavy.

Because it's so unpredictable its sometimes just nice to listen to and chill, especially jungle tracks Razz

Just my 2p Smile Thumbs Up

He doesn't solely do dubstep but he has some good dubstep mixes of tracks, I've been trying to find his mix of killing in the name for a while but completely failed.

Some people will probably disagree with me, but I'm not a fan of underground(?) dubstep, I just like the more mainstream stuff... DJ Fresh, Chase & Status, Nero etc

I went to a couple of D&B/dubstep nights out at uni, and never particularly enjoyed the music, but got into it more over the last year or two

How old are you?

I ask because one of the dickheads I work with keeps changing the radio to R1 instead of R2 and my blood pressure goes through the roof at the sheer, undanceable noise that is Chase&Status and Nero.

I'm presuming you're a "Youth of Today" because my generation wouldn't accept anything less than proper bangin' choons.

Just listen to this from 1999:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgMaKsj2Crs

We have gone backward musically since then, largely due to radio 1 DJ's being forced to say everything's brilliant, rather than them having some scruples and saying: "Nah, I'm not forcing this shite on the nation's youth!"

22, so guess you could class me as that haha.

I by no means have exclusively modern tastes though...

Mmmm a bit of Massive Attack Thumbs Up excellent choice. The newer album, Heligoland (ok, so it's now two years old), is fantastic. Saw it live and was covered in goosebumps.

That being said, I went to see Nero a couple of months ago and loved every minute despite getting crushed against the sound desk. Neutral

it was a sweeping generalisation, that's why i put "in general"

my point is, any monkey can hop on a omputer and have it set the beat, its a different kettle of fish trying to do that on a drum kit,
once you have the beat, adding a bass line is just a few mouse clicks away, not so on a bass guitar, see where im going with this??

it takes multiple peopl years to learn the instriments to be able to play a song,

where i could probably, if motivated enough, hop on the pc and pop out a "half decent" track, and i can barely play the ukelele,
