So, need both front and back for the (33bhp) FZR. I don't want sports tyres as I won't be going fast enough to need them. The bike is my sole mode of transports and also a toy on the weekends, so I need tyres that are good in the wet and dry and will last quite a long time, but also decent enough for the twisties.

Suggestions please?

As said Pilot Road 2 or the new 3 if you are willing to pay the extra, FYI i had a new set of power 2ct's fitted this weekend and the tyre fitter said Michelin are running a promotion at the moment where they'll pay for the fitting so may be worth ringing around to see which of your local tyre places are involved in this promo, should save yourself 30-50quid.

Dunlop Roadsmart

Maxxis Diamond (a mate rates these on his Hyabusa so they should handle 33bhp)

Avon storm ultra.

Budget bargain.... https://www.mandp.co.uk/productinfo/901971/Tyres/Tyre-Offers/Michelin

I had these on the SV and after 8K they still had plenty of life, My mate fitted a pair to his Aprillia Falco for a European tour last year and after 7K of abuse (he doesn't hang about) they're looking like they will make it to at least 8K, no complaints from either of us about them.

Sports touring tyres are much of a muchness. Try one and if you like it, stick with it! Why change it if you're happy with it.

For that very reason, my money has always been with the original dunlop roadsmarts. 30k miles have been covered on my fireblade since being in my possession, and the only tyres to have ever graced its rims were roadsmarts.

I do a LOT of riding in the wet/damp/cold/snow (well, used to) and it deals with all conditions.

I'd describe it as being stable and planted. Pick one you like the look of since with 33bhp, you're probably looking at between 8-12k miles on a rear.

Despite having a car now, and the fact that I use the bike less, I still opt for roadsmarts, despite the fact that I can probably go for sportsmarts etc.

I'm only changing the tyres because they are very close to (or maybe now at) the legal limit, and the front has a slight cut in the wall. First big bike too so I have no idea about tyres of this size.

Someone has recommended Dunlop Roadsmarts to me before but I thought I'd ask on here to get more opinions.

Most popular seem to be the Michelin Road Pilot 2's or Dunlop Roadsmarts. If I can get the Michelin's fitted for free then I'll probably go with them.

Thanks for the replies. Thumbs Up

Dunlop Roadsmarts Thumbs Up

After much indecisivness I plumped for these and they have been faultless. These are on my zx6r and I ride all year round.

Gone for the Roadsmarts at £229 for if I just ride the bike there.

Sounds like a good deal to me. Anyone get it cheaper?

Fuck spending that much on tyres, rather hang bricks from my nut sack.

Pilot Road 2's can be found for £170 a set... seems the obvious choice Laughing

Where? Cheapest I can see Pilot Road 2's online in the sizes I need is £200 quid, and the price for the Roadsmarts includes fitting. I don't even have to take the loose wheels.

Have you tried looking on fazer forum? I did some searching when I needed rubber for the 250. It soon became obvious that the BT45 was mentioned favourably. Bit tricker when it came to the ST2 but again the Pilot Road2 surfaced to the top. There probably isn't much difference in grip and longevity between a PR2 and AngelST, or most of the 2 compund sportstouring tyres.

Just to resurrect this thread again, I'm going to get the Hornet re-shod when it's serviced at the end of this month. Can I ask for opinions on the best value/grip/longevity ratio? I'm thinking Pilot Road 2s or Conti-Motions. The PRs have better reported durability, around 8000 miles plus...

10k? Wow. That might be worth the extra £50...

Running bt023's on my Hornet, good grip from cold and in the wet. Can't say much on durability, think I have put about 2-3k on them and not looking worn at all.

Haven't got anything to compare them too either as they are the only tyres I have bought, I may try the Pirelli Angel ST's next...

My bike came with Pirelli Angel STs on, and they have been excellent, great in the dry and possibly even better in the wet. Seem to be lasting really well too! Will definitely be getting them when I've worn these down!
