So i had some sad news this morning that my great gran died at 100 years old, peacefully in her sleep. hardly knew her really but still a shock.

But what i'm really wanting to discuss is this.

Would you like to live to 100?

I'm not sure i could bear slowly losing my mind, forgetting everyone's names and not being able to move properly anymore, etc etc.

*edited as discussions are voluntary and do not require prompting, y'all.*

DISCUSS!

I wouldn't worry about it, by the time you get to retirement age (which will probably be 85 for you) The government will only allow you a couple of years drawing a minimum pension, then you'll be melted down for recycling, or have frozen / starved to death, (whichever comes first).

A 50 year old man asked the doctor if he will live to 100 and here is a copy of the conversation:

Patient: Dr I'm curious, do you think I will live to 100 years old?
Dr: Lets run a few simple tests. Tell me, do you drink?
Patient: Oh no sir, I stopped drinking in my thirties.
Dr: What about smoking?
Patient: No sir, I have never smoked, disgusting habit.
Dr: Gamble?
Patient: Certainly not, gambling is the work of the devil.
Dr. Sex?
Patient: Not since my wife died 4 years ago. There'll be no one to replace her? .... So tell me Dr. Will I live to 100 years old?
Dr: Why the hell would you want too?

i've always had the view that life isn't about reaching the grave in an immaculate body at 100 years old...

it's about flying into it, through a brick wall, backwards, in a ball of fire.

So stop telling me that i'm too drunk, and that i should stop smoking coz it's bad for my health. no, i don't care that bikes are dangerous and i'll ride to my limits if i want to.

Stop putting Discuss at the end of a comment or question or you wont get to 35 years.

People don't need the instruction to debate something like you used to do at school.

Yep, I think it's more about the quality of life rather than the length of time..
I don't particularly want to get to my later years only to end up a dribbling mindless wreck

If its any use, my Gran on my Dad's side is 102. She wanted to make 100 just to show the world (and in particular the other 'younger' ladies in her home) that she could, and for the party. She's always been a stubborn, attention-seeking tart, that one....

Since then her body and mind have deteriorated to the point that she has had enough and wants to die. Its nothing in particular, just that her body doesn't work any more, she can't concentrate and all she wants to do is sleep. When she goes it will be sad but a relief in that we know she was ready and in a way it will be her decision to simply not wake up.

People of that generation are a different breed and we would do well to remember what they went through to give us the freedom to whinge and whine about nothing at all...

Would I like to live to 100? She wanted to and thats good enough for me.

Would i like to live to a 100 years old, I'm not sure ill tell you in 50 years if I'm still here.

However my great great auntie just turned 100 last month and still loves life, lives on her own and is completely independent, always has a smile on her face too which makes me think I might just want to.

Sorry to hear that Dunc. She had an excellent innings.

My Nan is 93 and upto last week was able to care for herself no problem. She had a heart attack. She's still with us and with a change in meds hopefully will be for many more years as she still hasn't shared her receipe for Gingercake ..[pauses whilst drooling..]

The woman is a miracle, she's as sharp as a tack and physically able to do abit of light gardening, cleaning, shopping and meeting friends for lunch. That's the good bit.
She has outlived all of her old friends and lots of family members. Never met anyone after her husband's death, I sense she gets lonely. She's of that era where they 'just get on with it'.

I'm happy to live as long as everything kinda works.

My great gran died at the age of 104, she had 8 years of being kept alive by drugs and machines and had no quality of life. She wanted to die but the doctors would not let her. It was horrible seeing her waste away untill her body finally gave up after a series of heart attacks.
would I want to live like that? Would I fuck. We are simply not designed to live that long, out bodys wear out and fall to pieces.

Hi

Not sure, will depend on what I am capable of doing by that age. As soon as I get to the stage where I can't do anything, stick me in the car in the garage with the keys in my hand and shut the door. That might take until I am beyond 100, might be a long time before that.

You won't have to wait until anything like 100 to start having those issues.

All the best

^^^Agree, my Nan seriously embarrasses me with her excellent memory.
Combination of good genetics and active lifestyle. (Her, not me)
