Sounds about right......

Will expect my thud on the doormat soon then.....

Perhaps look at getting a water meter. If it works out dearer over the year you can switch back to ratable value.

Yes that is normal I'm afraid, paid ridiculous amount for years in Yorkshire. Live in Oxfordshire now and on a meter. There's only the two of us in a 3 bed house and get a bill for around 60 quid every six months. Thumbs Up

The mrs works for United Utilities so Ive been asking her. She says...

The average for the UK is apparently £390 a year, but she has just told me that she has seen one thats been up to a grand for a private property.

Some time ago the government introduced the rateable value, this involved some half arsed asessment, which includes garages and shit - this means that you could be payingmore or less than your neighbours.

She reckons 2 people on a meter with normal usage may be about 360 a year, depending on how scruffy you were, garden watering, car washing etc.

£850 for me because the house is band F. OK, biggish house but only two of us here as a rule. NO WAY will I have a water meter though - I will use every drop I have paid for because the garden needs it. Practically live on a sand dune. Undersoil watering pipes are buried under the grass.

You need some rain water butts.

Set them up so you get a bit of a head on them for washing cars and bikes. Watering plants.

Water is fcuking expensive stuff to put through a pipe to a tap.

Don't buy bottle water and what you save put in a piggy bank for a rainy day. Smile
