Anyone had a play yet? The consumer preview has been released, downloaded and installed it this morning.

First impression? Bloody lovely! Very intuitive to use, easy to set up, pretty - and matches my phone Smile

Ive been playing with the developer preview for a few months and think its ok.

Metro interface.......

For touchscreen user i can see it would be awesome, but the standard mouse/keyboard user will hate it.

Thankfully it can be turned off, but not in the cons prev?
The Dev Prev had on the fly reg editing, something i havent found with the Cons Prev, unless im missing something.

Looks horrible and I hate it.
I hat ethe fact they've gone for some derpy thing to appeal to iPhone owners

It looks stupid and dumbed down and it's going to be massively successful because the general public are retarded.

Maybe I'm being a bit judgemental being as I've never used it, but I hate it and I'm switching to Linux with my next laptop. Windows 7 can stay on this laptop though.

One of the things I dislike the most is the apps. They're based on HTML5/CSS3 aren't they? This will undoubtedly be based upon their Internet Explorer. Yes they've revamped the security on Windows 8, but I still don't really trust it. Trust is like a piece of paper; once crumpled it can't really be perfect again.

From what I have seen, it's Windows 7 with a Fisherprice UI skin over the top of it. I will be clinging on to 7 like I did to XP.

How's that windows phone working out for you Slim?

Funny, I remember saying something similar about XP when it came out.

Beat me to it. Windows peaked at 2K, it's been nothing but rampant faggotry since then. The 7 I'm forced to use at work was put back to a 'proper' UI right away. Roger don't do no toytown. Folded arms

95 - Good
98 - Good
Millenium - Shit
2K - Good
XP - Good
Vista - Shit
Windows 7 - Good
Windows 8 - Must be good.
Windows 9 - Will be Shit

At last we have photographic evidence that a windows phone has actually been activated.

Android activations - 850,000 per day.
Windows - 1 assuming the photo's genuine.

Of course Windows7 is actually just a Vista service pack, bit naughty of MS to charge for it really,

It looks like it was designed for the chromosomally gifted with a penchant for red laboons and dropping their ice creams. They like the taste of windows too...

Windows 7 is leaps and bounds better than Vista. Much of the code is different and it was built to be snappy and efficient, which is what it does perfectly well.

As is windows8 to windows7.

As before, the metro UI is pants for kb+m users, but that will be thwarted soon enough.

C'mon peeps, grab the iso and fire it up in a vmachine Very Happy

Been messing with it this evening and haven't broken it yet! Also - 12 seconds from pushing the power button to reach the home screen...it's a winner I tell thee!

Been trying it in VirtualBox, but I can't install it (windows 8) lol. It says it's missing a DVD/CD driver and won't install. If I knew exactly what driver it wanted I'd install it Smile

If that fails, try burning it to disc or grab grab a hooky VMWare workstation Very Happy

this.

the metro thing is awful for a normal user.. turning it off just turns it back into windows 7 so dont think i'll be bothering with the 'upgrade'

you know its going to be crap anyway.. like star trek movies they always do a good one and a bad one. e.g. 95 (bad), 98 (good), me (bad), 2k (good), vista (bad), 7 (good), 8 (we will see..)

should still be able to do the reg edit, just like you have with every version of windows thus far Wink

People do the bad good bad good thing but always conveniently miss out either 2k or xp because it ruins their pattern. Laughing
