Hi all,
I've heard a few different things from various people and I'm rather confused...

3 years ago I managed to get 6 points on my licence (I had just passed my full car test a month before), so lost my licence. (accused of driving the car with no insurance, even though it was on a low loader.... long story but not my fault but also no way out and couldn't be bothered to try and fight it!)

I lost my licence with just the 6 points, and a fine, no ban.
I'm now back on a provisional and have been back on a CBT for the past few years, enjoying (strangely!) riding a scooter around.

I plan on taking my full bike test in the next few months, but this is where I've got some concerns.

I've been told that if I take my full test I will:
"Lose my licence straight away, as it's a "new full licence"".

Is this true, or would I just get a full licence, with 6 points still on it (until next year when they go) and then after another year go up to the full 12 points?

Any help would be awesome!!

Thanks!!

you won't lose your licence again. when you got the 6 points your licence was revoked under the new drivers act. when you reapply for your provisional it will arrive with 6 points on it. when you pass your full bike test you will then be allowed another 6 points on your licence at which point you would then be banned for totting up which would receive you a ban for a set period of time which expiry you would then continue as you were from 0 points but obviously have a ban to declare. the 6 point new drivers rule only applies once so if you did collect another 6 points your licence wouldn't be revoked but just a conventional ban.

Ah, cool.
So I can take my full test, get full licence, still have 6 points for another year until they go and then I would be back to 0 points again with 6 available for the following year after they go?

Made me chuckle there - I don't view my points tally and work out what's available - I tend to think of having 1 is 1 too many - not 11 available!

Helpful advice: stop being so bloody limp and passive, people who act like doormats often get used as such.

Contact the DVLA directly and get a straight answer.

points stay applicable on your licence for 3 years, removable after 4. so if next year is the third year then if you got your licence this year you would revert to 0 points and be able to 'collect' 12 points as you put it. the whole 6 point rule is only applicable the first time you pass some sort of fully licensed test be it either your driving test or bike test, so as soon as your current 6 points expire you be able to collect upto 12 points the same as anybody else
