That is a really good deal right? I'm still not very 'up' on the photography thing, but I was looking for a longer lens to see if I can get some decent shots when I go to brand hatch. That seem to be a very good price, I'm just after reasons not to buy it.

The only downer is the lack of image stabilisation (makes a lot of difference handheld - steadies the image for you) - this might be a better choice depending on your camera - I use a 600D

Hi

I have one of those; one of the first 2 lenses I bought when I first got a dSLR.

That is a pretty good deal for one, but they are not a great lens. Expect some purple fringing on high contrast images.

For the money I would say they are worthwhile having, and for my uses IS is not something I worry about (ie, most of my use for longer lenses is panned shots).

Sure the Canon IS lens of the same focal length is a far better lens (irrespective of the IS), but is also far more expensive.

Note that I think you can get other companies non-stabilised 70-300 lenses for a similar price, offering similar quality.

I believe I paid a tad over £300 for my Tamron 70-300VC, which should be around the level of the IS Canon. Was keeping an eye out for the Canon second hand, but all went for a fair bit.

I think for the money it's pretty good, I don't shoot with that focal length much and like you I just wanted to try it out without breaking the bank. I never upgraded as I didn't really need to.
