My ZX6R has a slight rattle which I naturally assumed to be the cam chain tensioner.

Just bought a brand new one and stuck it in and the rattle seems to be slightly worse rather than gone as I'd optimistically hoped Rolling Eyes I cranked the engine a couple of times to let it ratchet out and take up the slack then ran it at idle for a minute but it didn't go away.

Does it just take a while and need higher revs to get to the right length? Didn't want to ride the bike yet until I checked on here that that was the case...

last year i had a similar sound as you are describing, i also blamed it on the cam chain tensioner.
I was told by a friend of mine to check all my fasteners on the bike - it turned out that my steering damper mounting bolt was loose and rattling at idle - becoming more high frequency as speed increased - be worth going over all your fairing screws/mirror mounting bolts etc...

Yeah, still there with the clutch pulled in, it's not the clutch basket, I know what that sounds like. I suppose it could be valve clearances but it sounds like it's coming from the cam chain. The fact that it's got worse rather than stayed the same indicates that it definitely is the camchain tensioner as otherwise changing it would have made no difference. Maybe the spring is too weak or the wrong length or something? I did buy it off ebay Laughing

I was going to get a manual one but I managed to get this half price so it was easily the cheapest option in the end. It is meant to be a genuine part and had the right packaging and part number but who knows. It was from a shop though, not a private seller.
