Cheap alarmed padlock at Aldi

Just had the latest Aldi newsletter through.

They've got an alarmed padlock up for £8.99. Might be useful for someone on a budget. I'll get one just to keep under the seat for emergencies. Also has a three year warranty.

Might be worth a punt, I'll try and look at one in person if I remember.

Useful as an alarm I suppose, but I don't think it'll be up to much as a lock other than scuffing your caliper as it pings off. Completely happy to be wrong on that though, if someone can prove its not made of the monkey metal the price suggests.

Looks interesting, especially if powered by batteries.

I have an alarm but I am too scared to wire it into the bike cos I dont want to drain the battery by accident. So my CCTV and the "warning" sign in my front window so far has kept twats from stealing it (or possibly that its such a piece of shite that nobody wants to steal it any more ...)

You just put your finger over the bottom to kill the sound, but if nobody is expecting it you might get a bit of a heads up someone is messing with your bike.

It hates the cold though, anything below 3 celsius and the siren won't work properly, you just get a messed up bleating as soon as you try to engage the alarm.

Works fine in mild weather, I use it as an extra disk-lock when I'm out and use it on a chain when I'm home.

I've got one too - easily quietened but quite effective. Pretty sturdy too - not taken a set of croppers to it but would imagine it's not too bad...

Worth it for the cash - even as a cheap deterrent to stick on when in a car park or whatever...
