Go to a shop and try it on, or at least the same brand.

If you've tried the same make/model/size on in the shop, why the hell would it fit different from the internet?

I will re phase the question are helmets exempt from the distant selling regs.

Been through this many times no viable local shops without a 600 mile round trip.

No, nothing brought online is exempt from distance selling regs

Bollocks. Would be just one example of the things which are exempt ("liable to deteriorate or expire rapidly"). But helmets are not, unless customised.

However, many sellers will try to claim that they are, or impose impossible return conditions.

I've yet to see any distance seller who does it correctly though. See DSR 2000 and pay particular attention to 10, 11, 13, and 17.

Bit of a cock move though, if you've got any sort of local store to try-and-buy at.

Helmets on display in shops might get tried on many times, perhaps also by people with heads too big for that particular size... this might squash the padding making the space inside bigger, and thus a looser fit than a new helmet of that same size??

As for distance selling, I don't know, sorry.

I looked into buying online last year and it seemed far too much hassle. Most sellers are a bit funny about helmet returns - presumably as helmets are important and could be damaged easily - if one's returned and it's been damaged, they can't sell it then.

That's not to say if they packaged it properly it wouldn't be fine but yeah.

Its alot easier to just go to a shop and buy it there.

You're bang on, I bought an Arai Viper GT from Hein Gericke that had been on display, and it felt much looser than a brand new boxed one. So the very nice lady swapped the interior for me!
