On the subject of Kony and the LRA... I watched machine gun preacher last night and it was fantastic. Even more so that it's a true story and the guy is still out there now.

Lets not forget supporting a Ugandan army that runs around raping and pillaging as they please but it's ok, they're the good guys...

I saw the tumblr article on Facebook too. I am under no impression that this isn't all rosey as a campaign.

I'm generally a skeptical person, so took the campaign with a bunch of salt. But the photo linked in that link has probably (biased article) been used out of context. The accusations of rape and looting are just that, accusations. Until put before a trail we can't say otherwise. Lets no forget there as incidents in the western forces too, probably not as bad and definitely not as wide spread, but.

I imagine they are stuck with the Ugandan army because they are probably the best of a bad bunch. African Government, what a joke. Corrupt as fcuk.

Thumbs Up

Definetly a propaganda piece to get troop numbers on the ground in Uganda..

What I'd like to know from any of the sheep mindlessly bleating STOP KONY is, how are you planning to arrest him and deal with his 30k child soldiers?

Easy arrest him and set up an army recruitment stand outside their base Thumbs Up They are already trained in weapons handling and what not, they are kids so can't be paid for work, just re-employ the kids into our army, and set up a Ugandan Army, job done.

It is what I would do.

To be honest it is getting really annoying everyone I know is acting like it is only just happening and that it didn't happen before the video was made.

Seriously anyone with half a brain cell would realize what is going on here exploitation of the children and exploitation of everyone else for troops in the country.

America has been preparing their defenses for quite a while can't wait till they announce that they are going in to stop the pirates now that will be fun and won't be long.

Expect more videos coming out like this one though it always happens.

Of the $8.9 million they spent in 2011, this is the breakdown:
$1.7 million in US employee salaries
$357,000 in Film costs
$850,000 in Production costs
$685,000 in Computer equipement
$244,000 in "professional services" (DC lobbyists)
$1.07 million in travel expenses
$400,000 in office rent in San Diego
$16,000 in Entertainment etc...
Only 2.8 million (31%) made it to their charity program (which is further whittled down by local Ugandan government officials) - what do the children actually get?

Black, foreign and unheard of.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Joseph Kony in the Arsenal first team next season.

Isn't that how most charity's work?

Quote:
Bono's anti-poverty foundation ONE is under pressure to explain its finances after it was revealed that only a small percentage of money it raises reaches the needy.

The non-profit organisation set up by the U2 frontman received almost £9.6million in donations in 2008 but handed out only £118,000 to good causes (1.2 per cent).

The LRA are a bunch of lunatics for sure.

No political motives as such, no real territory claim, all they seem to do is fuck people up for fun.

Heard a story several months ago on the radio of the LRA taking a group of women hostage who were going to collect water.

They took them back to their camp, held them for a few hours, then cut their lips off and released them.

Mindless violence.

Africa, the savage arsehole of the world.

Doesn't that mean that stopping Kony won't really affect much then? Not like his army will lose morale since there's no real objective and I'm sure he'll have other people in place, especially upon hearing how many people want to capture him.

And would it be surprising if Kony was captured, the violence continued but all is forgotten because the main goal was complete?

I wonder if this new viral method of tracking people down will catch on?

It's like a real-life rubbish version of V for Vendetta. Maybe if were lucky the creator of the charity will drive an overladen 1930's jeep into Kony's camp anf blow him and the evil children to smithereens ina blaze of glory.

In more seriousness, it's a nice idea in theory, will be interesting to see if it acheives anything, the problem is, theres so many problems in the world, 1 man makes no difference.

Killing Binladen changed so much afterall.....

@Misc: Yes, I wasn't really saying that 'getting' Kony would do anything to affect the LRA, just giving an example of their savagery.

Sadly there are countless incidences of such savagery within Africa, undertaken by many groups, official or rebel, tribal or religious. It just is a continent used to violence, given that death and suffering in life is so widespread out there, it's not remarkable.

I'm eternally glad that I wasn't born a poor African.
