My work mate today told me that she wants a trike if it's not expensive. (we can ride it with car license and without wearing helmet here). I think she's not that serious. I heard that a female talent bought a trike and she thought it cool(I remember it was 250cc scooter based one).
I didn't expect a person with no experience on bike wants a trike as a first non car vehicle, but I responded to her that
1) Trike is expensive cause trike makers buy a scooter and mods it into trike.
2) If it's a cheap one, it's made in China and you should avoid it.
3) Trike doesn't fall on the ground like scooter but it's still dangerous compared to a car. If you hit with a car you will be severely hurt.
4) Trike and bike looks cool and enjoyable from a car but once you ride on it, it's hot and cold, windy and noisy, smells exhaust, it's not that comfortable thing.

She asked me if there's a rental trike around here so I searched for it at lunch time but couldn't find it any. So I told her that if you just wanna go and try bike shaped vehicle on rental, how about this honda ape 50 rental? (trial rental 1hour:1000yen).

I added 4) because she said her husband asked her not to ride any trike or bike cause they are dangerous.

So what do you respond if you were me, and what do you think of the idea car driver has a trike without any experience on motorcycle?
(I think she just wanted to change her mood)

p.s. this is the female talent she is a fan of.

What I'm curious are below two points.
-Do you suggest riding if your co worker(female no experience) is interested?
-Is a trike safer than scooter vehicle???

I tend to deter people if they ask about bikes. If they're truly serious they will take the time to form their own opinion anyway.

I wouldn't have thought it was much safer. You're still out in the elements. I guess you're less likely to be hit as you have a large road presence, but you may also be out without a helmet/other gear because you feel safer. Oh and those huge things can't avoid accidents as well as two wheels can!

I don't think I'd recommend a trike to anyone, it seems like the worst parts of a bike and a car combined.

However, I can spot one thing that might be easier to do on a trike.

Cheers for your helpful comment Thumbs Up Trike is bigger than bike and can be seen better on the road but can't do a emergency manoeuvre well. Thanks for pointing them out.
What made me nervous was a person with no experience can ride a big trike legally, I felt it for the first time when she asked me. Even with a helmet.

For whom already has a bike licence, I can't see any pros of trike either.
For her it was being able to ride without bike licence I think.
p.s. I don't think it's easy on that Laughing

Thanks. I think Piaggio mp3 is a nice choice too.
(Unfortunately law was changed and motorcycle licence is now necessary to ride it here due to the width)
