Know of any good torrent files that work for windows 7? Currently on Vista 32bit with an Acer machine and told that Win7 is really good.

Cheers.

What do you mean good torrent files?

You mean a decent torrent of windows 7?

thepiratebay.se/tag/windows+7/0/9

Sort by seeds, cant click it here to check exactly, but generally more seeds is a better file

Any of eth0s copies are good too
Try to get one that is precracked, or get a few serials online handy first (I use www.serials.ws)

Also an activator would be wise as windows 7 likes to suddenly check WGA

My version of win7 asks for a serial but you just press next and it carries on installing.

Well you have to do it right. Ideally you should burn the ISO to DVD as an image file at a slow burn speed, then boot from CD/DVD and do it that way.

Although i'm pretty sure Win7 isos you can just mount and run and start the install from inside windows XP, but then it reboots and does the other stuff anyway...

Give me your address in PM, i'll post you a Win7 modded one. Been using for ages and used on MANY machines.

Unless you fancy downloading 4gb from a newsgroup, search "windows 7 r1"

To be honest if I could be bothered I would go straight to XP on my netbook I'm currently using Windows 7 student version and it doesn't even allow you to change the background you have to install a separate piece of software.

Windows 7 is just a graphics, virtual memory sucking prick if it was a person. Really want to go to xp but can't find a good copy at the moment and would have to boot it from usb as I don't have a cd rom drive.

Especially as im running this config at the moment with the netbook;

Windows 7starter,
Intel® Atom™ Processor N280 (512K Cache, 1.66 GHz, 667 MHz FSB
1Gb ram
32bit

Laughing

Then i'm not surprised, pretty sure the minimum spec for windows 7 is 2GB

Try not having a crappy laptop.
and you can change the background...you can even automate it to alternate backgrounds from a folder at selected intervals, like a boss.

The things i dont like about windows 7 are the things i dont like from vista, moving pointless things like folder options to control panel, really.

It's all about 2.0 and windows 8 is even worse.
fire fox and chrome have also gone the 2,0 route, and by that I mean moving bookmarks to somewhere useless until you change the settings and over complicating things by simplifying it, seems backwards but it's true.

Basically OOO SHINY SILVER CURVED EDGES WOWEE I BUY I BUY
Fucking, people. You ruin everything.

Runs fine in 1Gb

Try looking harder in Explorer and you might find folder options!

IT can run fine on 1gb just seems run slow when I'm at home fast at university.

https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/47294-desktop-background-change-windows-7-starter.html

By default the Windows 7 Starter and Windows 7 Home Basic editions do not include the Personalization features such as change desktop background, Desktop Slideshow, Screen Saver, and Windows Color and Appearance.

Agree here, although you can change it back there are not many good improvements with windows 7

Even Windows 7 professional will run on 1GB but best to disable some bling - on an older machine you may have no choice especially the fancy desktop effects.
It runs well on my 10 year old desktop with 2GB ram.
It really wasn't happy anymore on XP, even when I re-installed, it by the time all the updates were installed.
W7 is a good bit faster and is generally nicer to navigate around IMO.

Just out of interest how does windows 7 compare to vista?
I have been using vista home premium for the last 3/4 years and to be honest I like it. But as i have no disc or code for it and i am about to build a new pc and there appears to be no way to transfer it from my laptop. Also it looks easier to download windows 7.

I thought windows 7 was a service pack for Vista, no? Wink

I used Vista for a couple of years but now I have 7 on all my machines and it's my OS of choice for installing on friends machines. 7 ultimate runs fine on a 2Ghz celeron with 1 GB ram. Removing WAT is the key to it all. Thumbs Up

The networking for windows vista is all fucked up, i've never not had a problem with networking a vista computer or laptop... In fact my grandmas vista laptop wont connect to the internet via our router at all,

Yet windows 7 seems so happy to find drivers for most things, and networking has always been mostly smooth and simples Thumbs Up

Its better in every respect - its what Vista should have been.

Things work in 7 and its much less of a resource hog. If a pc is capable of running XP then it should (drivers permitting) run 7 ok.

You could do an in place upgrade to 7 on your laptop and then image it across to the pc. Then install any required drivers on the pc.
