Following from my comment on another thread...

Anyone recommend any?
Even a helmet with them already built in would be cool.

Had a look around the internet and there is quite the range judging from the reviews, from barely audible to ear destroyingly loud.

I want something in the middle, not super cheap and crap but not OTT expensive.
Under £30.

Was eyeing the websites https://helmetspeakers.com/
Need something UK really, pointless shipping

Any experiences/thoughts/recommendations? Thumbs Up

You will not get anything but shite for UNDER £30...

Where do you think you are???
China?

At least £60 for decent speakers. Which will be difficult to find as 'single' items. Maplin do a helmet kit for their walkie-talkie sets. Not brill but mibby useable for you. I don't think you are that much bothered with fidelity.

Very Happy

https://www.maplin.co.uk/helmet-speaker-and-microphone-kit-27212

It is important to aim the speakers so sound spits out down your ear canal to your eardrum (if you have ears). This may require a bit of faffing with foam etc. to get perfik.

In ear headphones are the best choice, in town you can use just 1 and hear music/satnav perfectly well while also being able to hear the traffic and for long trips on dual carriageway/motorways using both headphones gets rid of wind noise, just remember to pull over and take one out when you get to a busy built up area

I persisted with earphones for years but since fitting the headset I never use phones on the bike now.

Have you actually tried any helmet with speakers built in......

Nolan system works fine. Can hear music and talk listen on phone at legal speeds no problem.

Also had a V-Can 1-2-1 and that was just the same... All for under £100

Both with the advantage of bluetooth so no wires required Thumbs Up

I bought this..
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-BT-interphone-bluetooth-motorcycle-helmet-intercom-/250868555905?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3a68ee6081

I tried them on my helmet ,and honestly they are really really loud.
My younger friend also got a set and he couldn't believe the sound from them.
And we can also use they biker to biker

if i was to rate them out of 10 ..they would get for marks,i have mine now 6 months and use them most days on my ride to work..

Hope this helps

Only one issue with helmet speakers. The hot chick at the crossing you waited at wasn't admiring the cool ride you were on but wondering what that shite was you were listening to. Embarassed

Thanks for the replies...

I use ear phones atm and they're shit, that's why I asked, when I put my helmet on the tend to pull out my ears slightly so I cant hear aswell, then hurt like fuck if they're out of position.

I'd rather have something I don't need to fuck around with and can just plug my MP3 in and go

That's a pretty funky BT interphone thing on ebay, but i'm not sure how I feel about bluetooth as i'm not really using it for comms, at least till I get some friends on bikes Wink

S'pretty cool actually looking at it more, and about the right price

Shame i dont have a bluetooth MP3 player, that'd be super sexy then

Nice Thumbs Up

The best advice I can give based on my experience is:

1) Buy a Scala G4 Intercom thing. It clips to the shell of your helmet and has VERY low profile speakers that go inside your helmet, absolutely fantastic. Can have conversations at 100mph and over and no problems listening to music either, sounds great, works great, can connect by wire or bluetooth.

2) Buy a set of custom in-ear earplugs with built-in headphones. I'll find the link.

Either way you're looking at £100+ but you get what you pay for. If you want quality and something that will last, you've got to pay for it.

G4 certainly looks the dog's bollocks, or even the bee's knees
Maybe next months pay aha, i'm a sucka for spending and i've already spent far too much this month!

in-ear earphones with built in headphones? I'm not sure I follow, would appreciate the link though Thumbs Up

Bear in mind I am mostly looking for some for an MP3 player, not so much voice comms (Save that for the future) so there's no need for me to overspend on something I wont use.. But at the same time I didn't want to get some piece of crap that tears out the wires when I take my lid off Rolling Eyes

Although that G4 would be futureproof...hmm

Cheers

Pull like fcuk on the helmet straps outwards as you slip your head in. This should prevent the earphones being pulled out.

Or grease your big ears. Razz

These are what I am talking about:

https://www.ultimateear.com/motorcyclist.php

Go there and I'd recommend the 'Soundear' model.

As I said above, it's expensive but it is custom moulded to YOUR ears, so will fit perfectly, have great sound quality and will last years. Thumbs Up!

Ok people enlighten me please?

If you have the speakers/headphones in the helmet and plugged into your phone.
How do you answer the phone?
Do you have to pull over, take your gloves off, find your phone and press answer, by which time they would of rung off.
Or is there an extra button? on the wires.
Or do i need to mount my phone on the dash?

For that you need a dedicated comms system linked to the phone by either hard wire or bluetooth.
Or you could fanny something together if you know what you are about with a magnifying glass tweezers and a wee soldering iron/bolt/hammer.

On the Scala G4 set I own, it goes like this:

Answering the phone:

There is a small button on the piece that clicks on your helmet, press it, tah-dah! When you want to hang up, press the button again.

No problems, easy to use even with gloves on doing some speed.

The microphone attaches to the piece that clips to the shell of your helmet, it runs under the chinbar and up behind the chinbar where your mouth is, just right.

Cheers! Thumbs Up!

I decided at 6pm tonight after staring at this laptop that's pissing me off that the 20p sized speakers would fit nicely behind the lining in my lid. Wink
