Hi folks, spotted a XJ6 for sale on the bay for quite a reasonable price, its a 2009 with 10,000 on the clock, its 170 mile from me so I asked the seller to send more pictures as only one was in the advert. On the following link is the photo's, is it me or is the chain looking worn and rusty, wheels look bad and swingarm very messy. It looks badly maintained to me or am I being a bit to fussy?

Commuter hack by the looks of it, but just dirty is all.

I never get why when someone sells their bike, they don't bother to wash it.

Shocked

Yup, it may just be dirty but its off putting, I thought the chain looked rusty in parts and its hard to tell what condition the forks are in with all that muck covering everything. Also it gives the impression the current owner doesn't take great care of the bike.

Looks pretty damn rusty. If its been sat unused i'm pretty sure the chain could even be siezed right up....what is this so called reasonable price exactly? Laughing

It just looks a little unloved - you could turn that to your advantage and get it really cheap.

I guess if its very cheap it could be worth a punt. I too can't understand why the seller can't even be arsed to clean it up and show the bike in its best light.

Chain and sprocket do look rusty but probably only surface and just needs a good clean and lube. I'd be more concerned about the fairing damage which proves the bike has either been down the road or dropped in some way.

I'd suggest its a bike that needs to viewed and scrutinised in person before doing a deal.

He's after £3,100 but has indicated he will drop so I'm thinking £2,700. Chain concerns me and front tyre looks like its not to far away from a change, its a long way from me so I'm trying to decide if its worth going to look at.

state of the chain is AWFUL!
As much as this could've been a commuter hack, the state of the chain could give you a good idea of the attitude towards preventive, and even general maintenance of the bike. Apply this attitude to the rest of the bike and god knows what it's short but somewhat apparent painful life could've been. Not to mention pictures hide most of the detail!
Can do much better with your money IMO.

Mike

Send him the other two links showing what you can get and offer him £2200. The bike's been ridden in harsh weather and it only takes one long journey in salt-ridden spray to make that kind of a mess of your bike.

If you're going to pay £3k or even close to it go for the yellow one with the new chain & tyres and engine bars. Otherwise, negotiate a large reduction.

Been dropped...

Needs a new chain, as not only rustty, is also way too loose....

State of that tells me owner does not take much care of bike.
As to wheels, look just the same as mine, as I never clean the bike over winter.

So it must be comming up to needing a MOT...
