Bastards Sky own the first race.

It is being broadcast on Sky Sports F1 which is a new channel I think.

HOW DO I GET ME A DECENT STREAM?

Also I don't mind paying a little each month for a stream rather than free for all that just crashes when more than 3 people want to watch it.

After more googling, I have found a solution.

Find a stream of a foreign tv network who broadcast for free. Mute audio. Boot of radio 5 live which is doing live commentary.
?????
Profit??

I fully expect it to be like streaming the boxing or WSBK. It'll be absolutely fine till it the lights go out and the cars start to move, then you'll get your next frame of picture somewhere on lap 2.

Options are:
Go to a mates house who has sky f1 - I have no friends. Well none round here anyway.
Watch it in the pub - That'll require a break in for this one.
Watch the BBC highlights - fuckdatshit
Try and find a stream online somewhere - I don't think there will be any decent ones
Wait till monday and get the race off newsgroups - I'll probably get spoilered, the race might not get uploaded just like WSBK doesn't

So i think this race is going to be a real tough one due to the time it's on, and the fact there's no established way of watching it. The fact that most uploads come from american sources and they're not into F1 makes things worse.
I expect when the race does get put online i'll be up there with Top Gear in terms of the number of downloads. Within a few races this will get noticed and better sources will be put up, and more rapidly too.
Streaming i'm not so sure about, it takes up a ton of bandwidth and even the best home connections have crap upload. Yeah you could do it from a web server at a data center somewhere, but that's easy to locate and shut down.

Why couldn't sky just do an online PPV service like MotoGP does? Pay a tenner per race for full TV coverage, or sign up for the year for £99 ?

Usually, the links dont get released until a few hours before the race.

There are a few places I ave found that you can pay for the stream and they are usually very good. I used to watch most major boxing matches that way so you don't get the freezing issue.

Something like £3 a month. Rather find a free one though.

Just to remind people that you do NOT need a Sky Sports subscription, only a HD subscription. I was dead against Sky getting it until I seen that.

To be fair, the channel launched on Friday and I have watched it every day, they have season reflections from the 80's and 90's era which are pretty good and it is good to see that they will be showing all practice sessions live which if you love F1 like me is pretty good.

Also will be showing GP2 and GP3 races live as well.

I'm forbidden from altering my flats external appearance by adding a dish to the outside.
I can't get virgin as although they supply houses 100 meters away it would nto be cost effective for them to supply me.
My internet connection is 2meg and the exchange is not FTTC so i can't get BT vision.

I'd be willing to pay to get sky HD. I'd pay double whatever sky are asking, but it's not possible. I'm sure many others are int he same situation.

https://www.vipbox.tv/

This site was streaming the launch of the Sky F1 channel the other day. Might still be. I'm hoping i'll be able to watch the races on there.

Does anyone know what the crack is with qualifying on the bbc. I'm guessing they're not showing ANY?

I think I'll just watch the highlights - I think the only race I watched in its entirety was the Canadian GP. All the other races were so dull that I lost interest in them after a while and switched onto something else.

Formula 1 on the BBC
The BBC will be providing live coverage of 10 races in the 2012 Formula 1 season across all its platforms.

For the remainder, there will be extended highlights on television and full live coverage on radio and online, including audio commentary.

So the beeb is streaming via their website live Thumbs Up Karma

Bear in mind, the 'Extended Highlights' the BBC are showing at 2pm on Sunday (race day) is basically THE RACE. The show is two hours long and you will only lose a few of the most boring laps, not the typical highlights that last 25 minutes like last year.

Also, it's being shown at the same time the re-run of the Australian GP is usually shown by the BBC as in previous seasons it's on live at 6am or whatever and shown again at 2pm, so it's basically as it was before just you can't watch it at 6am.

Same with Qualifying, it's on at 1pm Saturday and the show is 75 mins long, all you miss is the long-ass wait between Q1, Q2 and Q3.

To be fair they've done a pretty good job of it. Just remember that the 'extended highlights' are on at the same time they have re-ran it during previous seasons, so almost nothing has changed.

Here's a table showing the information that I read in a magazine I was bought:

https://i39.tinypic.com/afjwnc.png.

It's pretty decent.

I am pretty enraged that even though we have the best Virgin Media package you can get (got rid of Sky as we kept having no end of problems they couldn't fix) we only have Sky Sports F1 SD. Sky are basically holding the HD version of the channel hostage as you can ONLY get it in HD if you are on Sky, disgusting.

So far the channel has been pretty great though, I am hoping that with the VAST budget Sky must have that they have some pretty epic live coverage such as more on-board camera shots, complex telemetry-style graphics, much more suspended-wire cameras and such like. Would make it even more immersive.

Cheers!

In terms of on board and wire cameras and stuff, Sky have no control over that. The cameras are set up and run by ecclestones F1 group, then the local broadcasters edit the footage to focus on who they want. It used to be done by the local broadcaster, but then you had french grand prixs where 90% of the footage was of the local hero at the back of the field Laughing
Sky can and i think will add better graphics, do more features and interviews etc

I want the build up though. I am sad like that. The BBC did an excellent job last year especially with the build up before the race.

I will be streaming the F1 channel me thinks.

My neighbour has just mentioned he is getting sky later this week and he is getting the HD package. He is American so dunno if he watches F1 but if he does, JACKPOT.

I must agree that the BBC race build ups are very good. Much better than when F1 was on ITV. To be fair I don't think the Sky ones will be as good as the BBC given the commentary team, nothing will beat Coulthard, Humphrey and Jordan. Laughing!

China will be the first chance for a direct comparison, no matter what I am looking forward to this season, thoroughly. I'd like to see it shaken up a bit. This year we have five or six F1 world champions on the grid all of whom are in cars capable of challenging for wins, happy to see and watch as long as either Button or Raikkonen win! Thumbs Up!

I think it is slightly misleading and they are only streaming the 10 races that they are allowed to show. They say 'live' but I think they mean 'live text commentary' like they do for the premier league.
Which will just be- Button pits lap 12, Webber has crashed lap 39 ect.
Then aload of twitter comments from random people.

Yeh, they won't be streaming the whole thing online.
