Hi folks.
Even after reading the rules.......I hope I'm posting in the right section?
Anyway, I thought I'd introduce myself, as I'm not only new to this forum, but reasonably new to biking as a whole.
My name is Alexandra, or most of my friends call me Alex. I'm a lass from Scotland, and I own a wee red J1 model Kawasaki ZX6R Ninja.
My problem is that I stupidly took it out one day when it had been too cold to do so, and dropped my bike after hitting ice on the road. The result is cracked fairings, and I really would love to be able to purchase used (but good condition) replacement lower side fairing panels. I've looked on Ebay, and Google, and can't find any. So is there anyone here who could help point me in the right direction.....please?
Here is a pic of what I've done to my bike:

Replace the crash bung and live with the scars, they are not bad and you are bound to lay it down again.

Hi, welcome and all that jazz.

You have 4 options.

1, buy new ones direct from cradley kawasaki for the price of a small house.
2, live with them.
3, get them repaired and resprayed
4, check out ebay for used ones.

I spotted the crash bung is really bent, is it the bolt thats bent or the mount point?

Good luck and stop riding on cold/icy days!

Hmmmm, I already have a small house, and the price I paid for that is more than I'd have liked, so paying lots for new fairings doesn't appeal to me to be honest.
Living with them may have to be an option, but I assume it doesn't affect getting a new MOT this year?
A repair and respray is possible, but I assume will not be cheap either.
I suppose keep looking on Ebay for 2nd hand parts is the only cost effective way forward.
Fingers crossed I don't drop it too many times.......and yes, I've learner not to take it out on icy days.
On the crash bung point, it seems to be mounted on a flimsy bracket before fixing to the frame. So I assume it shouldn't do that, and the wrong bracket has been used to hold the fairing?
Thanks for the replies guys. Thumbs Up

I passed my MOT with:
- Sticky hi-beam button
- Cracked chain guard
- Incorrectly aligned handle bars (they didn't trap your hands at either left or right lock, however)
- Cracked fairing (in numerous places)
- Gaffer tape around all the indicators (the stalk bit, not the lense)
- A fairing bracket with a broken off indicator arm (I didn't even bother reattaching it, the indicator was held in position by using so much gaffer tape it couldn't slip through the hole)
- A r/h pillion footpeg which will not stay up (only stays down)
- Zip ties holding the fairing on in places
- Missing clock cowls
- Non-working neutral light

I'm sure there was more wrong with it too, I just can't think off by hand.

I did however fail the MOT on tyres. Just below the legal limit. I mean it when I say "just".

So long as broken bodywork isn't dangerous to you (which yours isn't), you should pass.

Lol thanks, it sounds like I should be ok on the MOT front then.....I'll find out for sure in June. Thumbs Up

The bike isn't required to have bodywork for an MOT. It isn't even required to have an engine!

Those panels get damaged every time the bike gets dropped, bikes of that age that haven't been dropped are going to be rare. Ones that are being scrapped and broken for parts that haven't been dropped even more so.

Looks to be 1 crack which is repairable, and road rash to the clear coat. sanding and replacing the clear coat would hide a lot of the damage. A guy i know fixed panels like those for £60, but that was done at mates rates so expect it to cost more than that.

Doesn't really look too serious - so if you can live with it looking like that, that's just what I'd do.

Note you can set up a alert on ebay that will email you if anything in a specific search comes up. If you're happy to leave it for a bit, you can play more of a waiting game to get a reasonable value.

Similarly, keep an eye on forums etc.
You could try breakers, but they're going to be selling to make good money, so don't expect amazing prices.

As above, certainly worth talking to local painters etc. You can "do it yourself" if you're that way inclined and careful with what you're doing.

Hate to say it but i've been looking for second hand replacements for a J1 ZX6R for about 6 months and not seen a single panel in good nick in the right colour! I'm currently waiting to see if mine gets written off (mib claim) but if it is offered back to me for salvage or not written off then I would seriously consider this sort of thing

Thats repairable with a good body shop. Plastic welding and a respray.

Also, I suspect that badly mounted bung caused more damage than it saved.

If you are going to put bungs on, get a good make and have them mounted correctly.

As others have said, there is nothing there that should cause an MOT failure.

Oh yes, I meant to add that - wonder if they were R&G bungs? Smile

Certainly wouldn't be using the same brand again!

They aren't R&G they look like Cheapo ones that have done more harm than good.

I've crashed 10+ times with R&G's everytime they have either saved me loads of damage, or done extra damage to a third party.

I crashed the four about a week after putting freshly painted bodywork on it. There was not one scratch on the paint. The R&G's on my TDM broke the leg of the drunk arsehole than ran in front of me.

R&G's FTW

How many bikes?

I've seen good and bad.

Hornet - good. SV650 - terrible. ZX6R J model - not great.

TDM and Speed Four, based on those I'd fit them to any bike I get.

Mate crashed his NC30, the R&G bungs did a great job. He crashed his ZXR, the bolt mangled his frame worse than the crash would have done...
I think decent bungs will save your paintwork in a slow drop, but if the bike actually hits anything they're just more ammunition to get smashed into other bits Laughing

Yeah, I think you are right, they even look cheap to me, and I don't really know any better. However, in my defence, I bought the bike with them on, so I'm not guilty. Sad

lol Laughing well there are specialised sites on the net for that, which this one likely isn't, and mine are not on the market for comparison.
However, I hope that doesn't mean I can't stay? Confused
