Looks like Audi have a good chance of buying Ducati:

Sorry if already posted but I couldn't find it.

Project Eagle? 4 wheels and 2 wheels, let's compromise in the long tradition of German-Italian axial cooperation...

I'd rather see the Audi or VW brand enter the motorcycle market in their own right, rather than take over a current brand.

Better to be sold to VAG than to BMW.

I'd love to see Italian design and German quality. The other way round, well, not so much.

I can see an "Audi Multistrada" - or "Audi ÜberAbenteuerMotorrad" - giving BMW a fright, but why buy Ducatti just to rebadge them?

Actually, why buy Ducatti at all? I suspect this is just a mid-corporate-life crisis and they'll come to their senses and go and buy some sportscar company instead.

I see it as potentially a very good thing for the bike market - Audi have the potential to legitimise biking in the minds of the fearful mass market.

From Audi's point of view they get hold of one of the premium bike brands (deserved or not the Ducati name has a real cachet) and a lot of technology and potentially a race team branding. Race team is probably a big one - Audi don't want to enter F1 but do a lot in the LMP, but that's not exactly mainstream in comparison to MotoGP.

If they wanted to rebrand they may as well buy Moto Guzzi.

Potentially a win-win, although it'll have to be handled carefully.

Audi buying an Italian motor company?

Nah, I can't see it leading to anything good at all.

Ah, but they thought they were buying a tractor outfit. Well they were sort of...

Big money behind a bike company is no bad thing as long as they keep the individual design teams.

Skoda cars are OK, it's the image they have a problem with. Ducati have a bit of a head start with the image thing.
