Will be on the look out for them tonight if this stupendous amount of cloud cover decides to bugger off.

Don't forget the Lyrids meteor shower is in late April and this year as far as we know it will be a moonless night, so epic viewing! Karma!

I saw that and got out the smart phone to use google star chart and find out what they were. In a line was jupiter, venus, mars, uranus and mercury! Mercury was too low on the horizon to see. Apparently less than 1% of people have ever seen it.

On the type of latitude that England is on, Mercury will be just above the horizon for about 60-90 minutes.

At the moment in March 2012, the five visible planets are all able to be seen, that's Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.

Take a look here: https://earthsky.org/tonight/all-five-visible-planets-light-up-march-2012-evening-sky.

Cheers! Thumbs Up!

Showed the middle kid last night. She was fascinated. Then we turned around and I showed her the slightly orange light in the sky and told her that was Mars. Of course being 8 she started to ask what the other stars we could see where. I was lost for an answer.

Tell her to look really hard at the patch of inky blackness in Orion that's missing from Google Sky, and she'll see Nibiru, the Oncoming Destroyer. Thumbs Up

When I first saw them on Sunday eve, I'd been watching 'Deep Impact' - I'd started to wonder if they weren't comets on heir way to destroy the earth.

V838 monocerotis is a bit far away to be a concern.

Cool to look at though!

From memory it holds the distinction of being the first spectral class L supergiant star discovered.
