https://www.london.gov.uk/media/press_releases_assembly_member/no-action-plan-safer-roads-cycling-casualties-rise

A good article which makes grim reading and no solution soon from the mayor of the 1% or TFL.

It's grim but equally astounding that the figures have gone down by about half over the last 20 years.

Could that be to do with reduced traffic in the charging zone?
I guess otherwise traffic has increased though, perhaps that means average speeds have dropped.

Just more Jenny Jones moonbat fuckwittery. Look at the actual numbers and compare with road use and sales. More pedalists, more scooterists on L plates means more casualties, durrrrr. Pedestrian casualties are down, and the overall proportion is meaningless as it just shows that there are fewer cars braving the congestion charge and parking muggings - surely the penguin hugging harridan is in favour of that?

Listen to Roger! These numbers are always misrepresented, as he points out more cyclists / motorcyclists == more ksi in those groups. Without balancing for that then the numbers are meaningless.

Furthermore, it's not even clear that those numbers are statistically significant - they only state the 2 years, no long term average. That's a trick used by people with an agenda - they take the numbers out of context and print only what they want to spport their case. As an example, imagine rolling a dice - long term average is 3.5, but you can take any two rolls out of context and say: two 6s in a row, clearly it's weighted or 4 then 6, clearly the dice is getting better over time.

Misrepresentation of statistics in the press or by pressure groups is a real problem nowadays, I'd claim people should be held accountable for it, but I genuinely think the people publishing crappy stats (or drawing conclusions from them) really don't realise they're doing it wrong.

Exactly! Like when certain people howled about how bicycle casualties went up 173% when bikers were allowed in bus lanes, the actual number of extra casualties was fourteen.

Stats are utterly meaningless without an unbiased understanding of the underlying figures.

yup, and I just noticed another thing... the figures are Jan-Sep so even more cherry picked than I first thought.

OP's title really should've been "Motorcycle deaths in London continue to fall" based on there being about 40% less ksis than 10 years ago. Or perhaps insignificant blip on graph.

They went up by one today. Mate of mine hit a pedestrian on the Old Kent Rd.
