I'm replacing my sv650 and I'm considering the following

https://www.bristolkawasaki.co.uk/used.shtml

I talked to the guy and the bikes meant to be in good nick, and has previous mots, but I'm a little concerned with 20500 miles on the clock and no service history.

Should i walk away or am I just being paranoid ?

If you mean the red and black one here
https://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/ATD_web/servlet/media?id=1937793772&defaultImageUrl=https://dealerservices.autotrader.co.uk/dealers/12520/12520_uvl_default.jpg&width=200&height=150

I think it's overpriced. No service history isn't that great, I'm surprised the dealer hasn't printed off a full service from themselves before they put it up for sale (seen this, regardless of whether it actually happened or not) I would just look for a similar, cheaper model on ebay and get someone who knows to go with you.

I'm not sure but I think valve clearances are around 24k on those, it's not that big a job but might be something to factor in.

The prices of Y models seemed to drop massively in comparison to similar era 600s. Id say its well overpriced and pretty undesirable. Id save more for a K model or at that price you would get a excellent example of a zx6r. Prob cheaper insurance too.

wouldn't go near any bike without a service history.
the valve clearances should have been at 14500, although they almost never need adjusting.

the bike is about £700-£800 over priced too.

you will find a better one.

That isn't high milage for age etc and my K1 has 32k miles and still going strong and has been faultless through out. Not uncommon with no service history either but it isnt reflected in the price, you could get a K1 or 2 for that price which is what I would go far rather than the older carbed SRAD model.

Now I only got a C at GCSE maths but I know there's something wrong there. That's a copy/paste quote if you've not read the link.

2k for it isn't great, stick it out and you will come across some rediculous bargains. Although I think anyone will agree it's hard to hold back when you're after a bike and have rose tinted glasses on Smile

Bristol Kawasaki are hands down the best dealership in Bristol. If you want a good deal on your bike plus fantastic aftercare speak to Paula there.

That's where I picked up my K7 GSX-R at around £500 below private price (steal from a dealer) with all the accessories it's worth well over £1000 more than I paid for it. Plus the aftercare is great. The motion sensor on the alarm started to play up just after it was out of warranty so I rang up and they spent a day or so on it sorting it free of charge, did a small service whilst it was there too. Thumbs Up.

For example, I paid £5200 for my GSX-R, at the time they were selling for £5800 privately with no addons, with the exhaust mine has and other parts it's worth £6800 parted out even now. Complete steal.

It will be completely serviced by them before you get it. They do this on all motorcycles that they sell and it's included in the sale price. You get 3 months standard warranty too.

If you can find a bike there that you like more than another I'd recommend getting it there even if it is slightly more expensive, they are much better than Stealer's (Fowler's) across the road and some others.

Like I said, ring up, speak to Paula, you won't regret it.

Good lord, over £2200 for a 1997 GSX-R600? To me, £2700 for a 2000 R6 seems heinous when you can get nicer looking 2001/2002 ones for a few hundred pound less with (probably) less miles and better history.

From a quick look on eBay:

2001 GSX-R600 £2,350

2002 GSX-R750 £1,800

2000 R6 £2,699

2001 R6 £2,300

2000 ZX6R £2,100

2001 ZX6R £2,350

2001 CBR600F £2,399

2003 CBR600F £2,495

2000 R1 £2,495

1999 Hornet £1,850

2002 Hornet £2,450

These are all close to us, Bristol, and seem to be much better value at a quick glance. I'm not saying they are faultless and all epic deals, probably are some nasty ones in there if you look properly but I'm too tired to do that right now and I'm sure there are some out there you like that are just as nice if not nicer than these. Bear in mind with these I didn't even go past the first half of the top page. There are LOADS more out there!

You have the problem that bike prices are starting to go up now as people want to buy something for summer and sellers know that, so you're going to be paying more. I don't know exactly what type of bike you want so I threw a few up there, put in a max £2500 within 40 miles of Bristol and there will always be room for bartering.

Take a look privately AWAY FROM DEALERS. Dealers aren't the only place to get bikes and you will almost always pay stupidly over the odds when you could get a bike in better shape cheaper privately, you just have to know to look at it properly and when to walk away.

No point throwing more money at a bike than you have to. Go look at ALL the ones you like the look of that are in your price range, private or dealership that you have examined close enough to see that it's all pretty fine and dandy.

Cheers!

600. The insuance quotes for the 955 were insane, although I'd have loved to get one.

Live near farnborough, where abouts are you?

To the original post, I wouldn't, looks cack and definitely too much money. Keep looking, don't let the money burn a whole in your pocket, as above there are awesome deals to be found.

Whilst those bikes are all pretty expensive for what they are, remember I said I only checked half of the first page, there are plenty more out there. Couldn't be bothered to check them all. I know I wouldn't buy any of the ones I listed but it was just a few examples I could grab at the early hours of the morning. Smile.

Also, for some reason, bikes tend to be more expensive in Southern England. When I bought GSX-R there was one in Hartlepool essentially exactly the same for £600 less. I've seen this trend a lot when looking for bikes.
