Motocross style helmets

You may think this is a daft question, but are motocross style helmets like the BOX MX-5 road legal even though they don't have a visor?

Sure they are, no visor is required just like with open face helmets. Goggles are a bloody good idea though as a fly in the eye at 70mph is an unwanted distraction

Oh and they look retarded if you aren't actually on a motocross/super moto style bike.

I have one, would only ever use it if going greenlaning or offroad, the visor is a bit... weird.

Yes mate I thought that too, but at the end of the day it's your head.

I read a thread on here about how they can potentially be a bit (worse off?) than normal helmets because of the chin peak bit. Like digs into the road rather than slide.. I think if I got a proper supermoto I'd look into getting the shoei hornet ds https://www.shoei-europe.com/uk/products/HORNET-DS/

Other factors like the peak on top like a cap is no good for high speed, lifesavers ect.

But it's your call, I do think they look on a supermoto

That's a bit pricey for me as a beginner. I think I'll go for a good quality standard one. Do you think BOX helmets are any good? Are they comfortable?

I'm no expert mate but I can tell you it's all about the fit with a helmet.

Find some bike/ clothing shops near you and go and try on every lid possible.

You might find a certain manufacturer fits you better - whether it's a 20 quid lid or 300+.. Get the best fit you can!

Not a lid for high speeds but the visibility and ventilation is the best I've had in a lid.

when I had my KTM 625 SMC last year i had a motocross helmet and goggles (used it a lot offroad), and found when riding on the road with it my neck would ache like shit from the wind catching the peak.

really are not a good idea for the road, I also tried one with the visor, but due to how sharp the curve in the visor was everything was REALLY distorted, and gives you a thumping headache after a long ride.
