...but not in a position to buy it right now, and I doubt it would be there for long. Mint 2002 Hornet, with only 469 miles on the clock, for £2695. Bloke bought it new for his wife, who wasn't really interested.

It's at Keep Biking in Brackley, if it floats anyone's boat.

If I was still looking for a bike, I'd have been on that like a shot. Mileage is ridiculously low.

It's a 10 year old bike so I'd want to change all the fluids, and the tyres might have a flat spot so they may need changing too, but it's essentially brand new. If I had the garage space my credit card would have taken a hit today Smile

Wow, I would have thought a bike like that would have cost way more. I don't see it hanging around for long. Can't you put a down payment on it for him to keep the bike for you till you find the full amount?

That is an incredible mileage if it's totally legitimate. An average yearly mileage of 49.6 miles. Shocked.

I wonder why it is so low? Was it used when first purchased and then left in a garage for the best part of 10 years until they finally decided that 'enough's enough' and that it was taking up too much room? Laughing!

Either way, it looks fantastic, is fantastic, the price is fantastic and you'll actually have to run it in a bit! Laughing! According to Hornet websites you have to take it easy for the first 1000 miles or so, definitely no redlining!

If that mileage is legitmate, at an average 35mpg, it's only used ~60 litres of fuel in it's life, that's around 3 tanks!

Fantastic find, if I was anywhere near that dealership it'd be in my garage tomorrow. Thumbs Up!

The bike in the pic looks totally minted, so there has to be a good chance the mileage is real. I don't know enough about old classic bikes to comment with experience, but would I be right in saying it would be an easy enough task to clock the mileage back? Question

Old, classic.... It's an 02 hornet not a laverda triple Laughing

You could stick a brand new set of clocks on anything and it'd have zero mileage but for the dealer to push it as such a low mileage bike they must have a pretty good idea it hasn't been messed about with.

That was my initial thought, someone could have thrown a brand new set of clocks on. I'm sure Honda have serial numbers on each part for bikes that have to match up though, like firearms, matching serial numbers on the stock, barrels, breech, bolt and other parts etc so I'd like to think it's the same for bikes.

Epic bike though, really like it. Thumbs Up!

Well, you know it's 10 years old. The mileage, hmmm. I'd want to either see MOTs or a pile of SORN confirmations.

The oil will probably come out like cappuccino from the water in it, look out for perished seals (especially on the suspension), brittle hoses, and check the tank for rust.

But all that said, there's 2002 Hornets with tens of thousands of miles on them going for not much less money on eBay, so if it's survived well or just needs a bit done to it, then it's essentially a new bike for pocket money.

tl;dr - nice find!

2002 Hornets on eBay at the mo :-

https://tinyurl.com/82nsaqh

One with 44k on the clock going for a grand, but the others are in the same ballpark.

When I got my bike there was a Bandit in the shop with the same story, husband bought for wife, wife never used it so it went back to the shop with 500 miles on it after 5 years.

Must be a common problem!

They aren't that epxensive.

Looking at around £1500 for 20k miles 10 years old if you keep your eye out.

Yup, 2002 Hornets have been going for £2k+ on eBay, if you search for completed listing as well.

So did I Razz.

Went to see it last weekend. Needs a lot of work. Fork seals, brake seals all round, chain and sprockets, tax and mot plus a good service (all fluids and filters) along with the rear brake light switch isn't working and nor is the front indicator!

Bout 450 quids worth of stuff above if not more there.

Considering bishbash only paid 1500 for his 2000 model so 17" front wheel and better ignition map with around 20k miles from memory I needed to bare that in mind!

I'd see that as a good oppurtunity to get it cheap - nothing expensive and nothing I couldn't do myself but some good bargaining tools to get it a fair bit cheaper Wink Didn't know about the different sizes of front wheel though, in fact I don't know much about Hornets at all.[/quote]

Oh I did Smile. Think he thought I was taking the piss though. Young lad, turning up saying his bike needs all this work etc. Made him an offer and left my number as we were a bit apart in what we both wanted.

On a side note. Rather pleased with my latest purchase. Went to see my Daytona. Guy had it up for 2800. Went with my mechanical friend, slightly older and wiser. Told the guy it needed a major service at the dealers, along with some other bits like mot and tax plus chain and sprockets in the future as well as rear brake pads, probably around 800 at a dealer. Shook hands on 2150 for the bike. Thought he was going to tell me to 'fuck off' when I offered him 2100 for it lol.

To be fair, I've spend a fair bit on it so far and there are a couple of bits that'll need doing in the future but if I keep it for long enough (am yet to keep a bike more than 14 months) its a rather good buy Smile.
