I'm not knowledgeable on the "big bore kits" which I'm guessing that is (guessing by passively reading a comment on it once), though, if the bike is 70cc currently then you can not restrict it and ride it at 16.

You would have to revert it back to 50cc rather than 70cc in order to be legal again. Restricting the power isn't an option.

If i remember correctly (I had a DNA 50 back in 2003) the kit consists of some uprated engine parts, most likely the old ones were discarded by the owner when fitted.

You could buy all original parts and fit them all, or you could just buy the bike as is and ride it anyway. Whap some L's on there and no ones going to know any the wiser.

Edit: Also remove your email address or prepare for a spam shitstorm Wink

I was asking the same question not so long ago. What I gathered is that if you want a completely restricted 50cc, get a bike with only an exhaust mod, then replace with a stock one, otherwise it can cost a lot of money with other de-restricted parts. Or, if you're lucky enough, buy one which hasn't been de-restricted Thumbs Up

By revert, I mean that. But I get the feeling it would cost more than buying one that was already 50cc rather than 70cc. I also don't know how practical it is because I know sod all about mechanics.

But if you do get caught you will be riding otherwise in accordance with your licence and could face 6 points and a fine, I believe.

I'm going to be honest here. If you don't feel like riding a bike that does over 30mph illegally (completely justified and sensible), I would just save up and hold tight until your 17th birthday. 30mph is NOT very fast on modern roads and you'll have much more fun starting off your biking career on a 125.

Pro tip: if you put HELP in caps in the subject, we'll just assume you're asking about a Gilera ped. Wink

OK, the cheapest way to be legal is to find an unmolested 50cc moped. Try eBay, Gumtree, local newspaper small ads, don't expect the perfect bike to be sitting right there waiting for you. If you start fiddling with an already fiddled bike, that's a well that potentially has no bottom, and you'll never be sure that you're back to legal again.

And now the science. If you're going to ride something that's 1cc over 50cc, or capable of 1mph more than 30-32mph (depending on which legislation you go by) - and nearly every 16 year old does do that, because riding a 30mph ped on modern UK roads is suicidal - then you may as well be hung for a sheep as for a lamb.

Either be scrupulously legal and prepared to prove it, or just get yourself anything you like. Legally you'd be no worse off on a Hayabusa than on 51cc / 33mph machine, it really comes down to how likely you are to be caught and prosecuted.
