Chinese plastics for CBR600

So after my little smash up, I doubt I'm going to find a matching cowl - I've been looking at the Chinese fairing kits.

Are these any good? How does the tank bit work? Does it just sit over the tank or what?

Not sure about CBR ones but I think Paddy just had a chinese set for his gixxer rebuild and from what I've seen of his comments, they're actually pretty decent.

I had been considering doing the same with my ZX6R, but just wasn't sure if using Chinese copy panels were a good idea or not.
I know they are not original, but if they are good copies, should it matter? (and please guys, do try to keep this topic on replacement panels)

A mate has a set of these on his 03 cbr 600rr. they are pretty decent, but be prepared to do a little bit of sanding/filing to get a perfect fit.

The tank covers are just that, they hook on with a lip at the front and you bolt through them as normal at the rear.

The way i see it, they cost £350 for a full set of plastics, meaning the expensive genuine oanels can be taken off and stored safely ( or sold to make your money back if needs be).

Also, at £350 for the full set, its a damn sight cheaper than a paint job!

Im quite possibly going to be ordering a set for my thundercat next week.

I've read on the thundercat forum that these fairings are pretty decent really. Definitely something to consider in the event of a spill! Huge variety of colours and race rep designs too.

dont the pre RR cbr's have normal style fuel tanks and no tank cover? If so the kit wouldnt include a cover and you would have to paint the tank yourself as far as i know.

I just ordered a set last week for my RR-5, They should be delivered within the next two weeks and i'm planning on doing a little write up review type thing in show and tell section, so if you can wait that long it will give you a good idea of what there like. The quality can differ quite a lot from seller to seller and they all claim to be the best so it's a bit of a lottery.

I have had them before and put a set on my RR-3 just over a year ago and was more than happy with the paint finish and fitment but unfortunately the seller i bought them off is no longer trading so this time i went with a seller called auctmarts who seem to get good reviews.

As Salty has said, I think it's only the RR models that have the plastic tanks, the real tank is a metal one underneath which is much smaller, the 'tank' cover is about 50% fuel tank/50% electronics/airbox on the RR7.

I'm awaiting a set that i've bought but it's been quite a while now. My seller has been less than great and I spotted auctmarts in a thread salty had, so I'm tempted to file a complaint and get a refund on mine - I ordered on 19th Feb they've still not been shipped - so with the 45 day paypal deal, i'm kinda at the end of any reasonable time to give them now - bytime they've shipped, I've got them, checked and fitted them etc.

guy along the road from me bought the Alstare kit for his GSXR and it looked really good, he had to dremel a few of the holes out a few mm to get a perfect fit, but for the money i couldn't fault them, the graphics/laquer was actually really pretty good too.

the only issue i had with my kit (which was very minor) was that there was a fair bit of exess paint in the fixing holes that needed to be cleaned out before putting the bolts in. I've already bought myself a nice little assorted file set for this new kit so should be nice and easy. I'm not looking forward to cutting the holes for the crash bobbins though

There is a 99R1 around the corner from where I work, with the FIAT Yamaha M1 plastics on it.
They are the ones from China, and I was very impressed with the fit.

Around the headlights etc, everything seemed to fit spot on.

Just a shame about the fucking gay arse paint job.

Mine have just been shipped from China, I ordered them on 19th Feb so a month to ship! I opened a paypal complaint yesterday so i think that hurried things along...

So, I expect to recieve a shit in a box in however long it takes to get here from China.

Hopefully they'll be alright, I'm off work from Thursday for 2ish weeks so if they turn up I should have them fitted pretty quickly.

Gone for the repsol honda look. Already got the tyres off the rims and the rims stripped. So when it turns up (and i've verified it all fits properly) i'll be straight off to the powdercoaters with a bit of it to get orange wheels.

So no stealing should be necessary.

That's about my only problem with the scheme. I've always liked the repsol look. But now it comes saddled with Mr Personality attached to it. Dont worry though, it wont have a 27 on it!

Ok, mine turned up a few days back, today has been the first 'in anger' full on day i've been able to throw at it and..... there pretty much on, I need to adjust a few bits here and there - not chopping/dremmel, just pull loosen/pull bits around a little so things line up a little better.

The paint quality is spot on, panel line up isn't bad at all. The most complex bits have been the sides. On the RR you've got two seperate panels joined by two bits of plastic and then another bit of plastic that provides a mount for the indicator. This 'unit' then clicks onto the tank, bellypan and two seperate pieces on the nose of the bike. I'm trying to get that aligned, and it just needs a bit of pulling here and there, but i've ran out of time for today.

Anyhow, it seems alright, wheels are going to the powdercoating shop tomorrow and will come back nuclear orange, happy days!

Will do, i've been taking pics before panel/after panel so i'll pop a thread up in the workshop and link through to this one once it's all done.

Yeah I was like that, just couldn't wait to get them, then they turned up and I spend a day wondering around various shops buying bolts/clips that I thought I already had! Still, it's gonna look nice one it's all finished up.

I find it hard to believe they could be any worse in terms of both fit and strength than Japanese plastics are.

If they were, they'd arrive broken.

So it's down to quality of the paint finish really.

I'd agree Stinkwheel. Putting an old original bit, and a new bit next to each other, the panel thickness/sizing all seems exactly identical, so they're not bad at all.

The only 'complex' bit were the sides which require a fiddly 'clicky' assembly that must be done in a certain order, and each click makes the next click harder to get in place, mostly involving lots of bending that seems scary on a new panel. But I suspect some of this is down to this being the first time i've totally re-faired an entire bike with new parts.

The paint finish in my opinion is second to none. I had to pop into a Honda dealer today to get some clips and they had a new repsol blade and the finish on mine didn't look worse.
