I was near the Yorkshire Evening Post, waiting at the lights there. I'm in the right hand lane (which you can turn right or go straight on) and someone is in the left hand lane.

Lights go to green, I set off, the car in the left lane decides he's going to turn RIGHT!!!

Straight into my path, come off - worst thing about it is I have a pillion on the back...

Bike's pretty wrecked. Front cowl is smashed up, the engine casing is scratched and pissing oil out. Had to leave it at a nearby hotel under their CCTV.

Now the driver wants to go through this the cash route - which I have no issues with he's been sound so far. Do I have a certain time limit to go through insurance or anything? I don't want to get caught out here or anything.

There were no witnesses - nobody stopped! lol.

Bearing in mind my insurance payed out £1175 for a van i paid £800 on, then proceeded to claim a further £3500 for travel expenses, physiotherapy (which did sort out a long term back problem) and whiplash...I'd claim it.

Honestly all the guy had done was dented the bumper and one of the back doors. Could have been fixed for about £40...however with the cambelt and brakes needing doing all round, and smashing the front end in twice the van would probbably have sold for around £300-400. Best thing that could have happened to it!

Get down the doc ASAP so they've got a record for the insurance. Ideally hospital straight away. Let em write it off, buy it back (got offered my van for £270) fix it up and have a couple quid in your pocket for the hassle. I had no witnesses, photo's of the accident or emergency services at the scene...so i'd not worry about that. Passengers can claim injury too. Check for CCTV cameras that cover the junction and request a copy of the tape ASAP!

Whatever the insurance offer for your bike say no untill they turn round and say some bollocks about providing proof. If its still a shit offer, provide autotrader ads for overpriced identical bikes. My first insurance offer was £990...

But thats just me, i dont have morals, was heavily in debt and had just been severely bum fucked over a claim made against me.

I know exactly where your on about. I have been crashed into 3 times by people who were very nice face to face and offered to pay for the damage as the accidents were 100% their fault. I have then gone away got quotes for repairs and they people decide to fabricate evidence and are not willing to pay 1000 pound to repair my car.

Go through the insurance as the person will already be trying to blame you and may already have told their insurance.

I've got texts from the guy more or less admitting it.

He seems quite honest so far... he's just a young lad from Harrogate obviously I don't think he wants his insurance going up.

My pillion was sort of a "first date" so that naturally went spectacularly well - LOL. In all fairness she knows it wasn't my fault I don't think anybody could have expected someone in the left lane to turn right across their path, that was a whole lot of card to avoid suddenly.

Ironically, she works at a solicitors dealing with insurance claims...

I've got his address, name, contact details, insurance details. I don't mind doing it the cash route with him, but what do I need to do to cover my own back from this point?

The extend of the damage that I can see so far is:

Smashed front cowl (going to need a new one), the engine case that sticks out of the side of the fairing is scraped, but also now pissing oil out, cracked mirror. That's all I can see so far.

If you dont have a witness you will have a tough time claiming. If you were to go the insurance route, he will most probably fight back claiming all sorts. Why wouldn't he, no witnesses so best for him to go for 50/50.

Not at all condoning it, its just exactly whats happening with my claim right now. Even though I have a witness seeing the car driver speed off, with me chasing after her with a broken arm.

People are fucked up.

Go through insurance youl get a curtousey bike, and alot of pennies claim everything youre brand new 500 arai helmet thts fuked and the pillions, youl get what the bikes market value is, fuck the other person if you had been going faster it would of been alot worse,

This kind of stuff happens day in day out. The problem is, bikes dont tend to look that fucked after they've been in a crash. What you need to bear in mind is that theres going to be all sort of knock, dinks, scratches, dents on your bike. You tot up the total for all of those parts, and that that guy's eyes will bug out.

Most of the time on onlder bikes you'll be looking at a write-off straight away if theres damage to the tank and handlebars etc.

Ideally, as it stands, report it to your insurance company as "notification only". See if he pays out, you may find he's a rich kid who'll pay out no issues.

Get yourself to the doctors asap and get yourself checked out. Any pains etc may show themselves further down the line.

Then play the waiting game
