Do you have an iPhone?

It's possible to get very capable sat-nav software for most smartphones these days. If your phone is capable of doing so, you may find it cheaper to mount your phone on the bike and get a charger socket connected.

If you have a smartphone with GPS and a Data Plan, use that.

I'm currently adding a phone charger to my GS500F. Most people add cigarette lighter sockets, but I'm going for a completely waterproof solution.

Basically I've bought a car charger, chopped it in half. Used the circuit from the charger to step the 12v battery down to 5v and I'm running the other half to the phone. I've not got time now to explain everything, but I'll come back and write it up if you like?

I use TomTom on my iphone (but have also used Street Pilot which is pretty good and 1/3rd the price). But haven't tried it on the bike yet.

Oxford do a mount that goes for about £15 on ebay.

Either that or a TomTom rider, but they ain't cheap.

That requires being able to READ maps. If you're me, then using a map will land me 500 miles away from my planned destination Razz

If the 500 mile destination has a Nandos or KFC, I don't mind!

Love Nando's. There's like 3 within 15 miles of me. Temptation on a plate.

I got a waterproof/weather/shock proof (of which it's been tested! in the hammering rain and being dropped a few times) sat nav off ebay, it's an unbranded chinese one that runs windows ce.

Think it was about £80, included a mount and waterproof charging cable which attached to the mount

Just deleted the poor software that was on it and stuck igo primo on it instead. works a treat. Also has bluetooth so can receive audio directions with an ear peice

I use a Garmin Nuvi 1300 Sat Nav on my bike... You can pick both the Sat Nav and the bike handlebar mount up very cheap these days. Not a bad Sat Nav, sometimes it can be a little slow recalculating a route.
