Due to my wife being totally inconsiderate and not allowing me a Triumph Adventure, I have had to make do with getting luggage for the Striple.

So I plumped for the Ventura stuff as I didn't want a permanent set up and thought I'd try and do a little write up about it.

I have been looking on ebay for a while but nothing has come up for the Street Triple so I bit the bullet and ordered from
https://www.ventura-bike.co.uk/, which is actually Motohaus as the suppliers.

I ordered the rails, pack rack, grab handle and Aero Spada pack which came to a whopping £305.38 including postage. There was nothing to say whether the parts were in stock when I ordered, and later got an e-mail saying not all parts were in stock and it would be up to 2 weeks for them to come in. However 3 days later I got another e-mail saying they were in stock and would be dispached that afternoon. They arrived the next day.

What do you get for the dosh, well it doesnt seem a lot really. The L brackets (rails) were £84.50 + vat for 2 bits of tube and some fastenings. I presume the costs are high because of all the different bikes they make them for and the research into them.

The instructions were clear. To start off it said remove the silences and tail fairing. I found out I had no need to remove the silencers but that might be because I have aftermarket ones fitted.

Everything fitted fine, with no bending, hitting or untoward swearing!

The instructions said you might have to adjust the silencers to stop them touching the rack, but mine cleared by a good 5mm.

Once fitted, it's easy to interchange the rack and grab rail. The only thing that worrys me a bit is that they are held on by a knurled screw into a recess. They won't move, but it would be very easy to knick the rack off the bike.

https://img402.imageshack.us/img402/2241/20120321153407.jpg

The bag is reall good quality and big and is easily attached to the rack. It also has shoulder straps for when you are off the bike. (please excuse the rubbish in the picture, we are fitting a new kitchen at the moment!)

I went for a ride with it on and got an 18 pack of stella in it Laughing . It really didn't make any real difference to the handling. I suspect on a windy day it might.

So, it will do the job. Not as well as hard luggage but if you have a sports bike or naked that you don't want to put panniers on it's good. The quality is very very good, but when the luggage is off, and you just have the grab rail, it's not the nicest looking bit of kit.

Theres cheaper options, throw over panniers and tank bags, but I'm paranoid about scratching the paintwork and with under seat exhausts, well throwovers aren't really an option.

So it gets the thumbs up, but if you can get a second hand kit off ebay for your bike, it will save you a wad!

I'll be honest, I don't like. Doesn't seem to be appreciably better than a topbox, and looks significantly more gash when its not on.

Surely if they make those GIvi will do one too?

it isnt, the only advantage is that it isn't there permanently.

Does the whole lot come off then? Appreciate you've bought it now, but most toplates are only two bolts to remove then you just have the frame.

Wouldn't it cost less to re-paint the tank than fit that system. Confused

Tank bag, rubbery non-slip mesh under it, job done.

probably, but I do need a convenient luggage system. It's expensive, yes. But until her indoors allows me

triumph do a nice range including seat panel protectors that fit exactly whatever model of bike, with clip on clip off panniers that clip to a panel that attaches to the rear seat

edit they even do special film to protect the paint work

There's a review of throwover panniers in this month's Ride. So much cheaper than hard luggage.

There's no such bike, you're talking about the Tiger Explorer.

They could have skipped the confusion and just called it the Triumph R1200GS. Wink

This appears to be correct

that rack is ugly :\ wouldn't it be cheaper and pretty much the same to get a top box? The fixing plates are normally only a couple of bolts so also wouldn't be permanant?
