That's grim that, rip to that lad, he was only young as well. It says the driver was in her 80's... I'm jumping to a big conclusion here but in my experience, people in their 80's who are still drivng are dodgey as fuck.

I would probably wager money that if you made that woman retake her test to see if she should still be on the road, she would fail miserably. Then again, it might not have been her fault and he could of been riding like a loon.

I'd assume a little from column A, a little from column B.

Straight up, flat caps and blue rinses are my biggest concern, and any reasonable hazard perception test would have a clip where one just pulls right out on the camera vehicle, no warning. They are a hazard and riders need to be made aware of it.

I'll play devils advocate. Being 80 years old will mean your driving will be seriously impaired. Also 17 years old will mean your experience is not at a very high level.

We'll never know what really happened but on a 125 someone with a bit more experience riding might have anticipated the accident and been able to react better. Speculation on who's at fault is pointless. Either way its a tragic accident when anyone gets taken out on a bike, even more so with someone so young.

Thoughts go out to the family at this terrible time.

I was hit by a female driver in her late 70s, she was driving a bmw m3 or something... Was also half my size, tiny..no idea how she can see over the steering wheel Rolling Eyes

Not to be ageist..but if I was in my 80s and still riding a b-king, Id think that quite dangerous!..we all lose our reactions and thinking speed as we get to a certain point in life.

I am less fearful of 80 year old dawdlers than I am of the following:

Arrow 18 year chavsters chucking diesel down on roundabouts so they can drift their Corsas round it,

Arrow Travelling salesmen in their M5s and Audis sitting 2 inches from my back wheel and switching lanes in traffic like there's no tomorrow,

Arrow Panda-car plod who think half an hour 'training' means they can drive like twats and overtake on blind bends.

Newbie on here.

I've been down Lytham Rd many at times when I lived in Preston. Hardcastle Rd is on a good slope joining Lytham Rd, whether that was a contributing factor to this accident we don't know.

RIP

RIP, happened only a mile from my house.
My mate was knocked off his bike the day before and the only damage was to the bike, can't believe how similar circumstances can come out with 2 drastically different outcomes.

It's true that OAP's aren't highly at risk from death and serious injury according to the stats. However those don't really take into account how much danger they could be to other people and particularly vulnerable road users who are often harder to spot (motorcyclists, pedestrians, cyclists) but who won't cause much damage to a car, should one pull out on them, change lanes into them, etc.

In any case, and regardless of who was at fault, this sounds like a tragic accident, thoughts are with his family, and I'm sure the lady involved is very upset to have caused such a young riders death as well.

I'll give you a clue.
It ain't OAP's.

My old man used to say that most OAPs had not had an accident....

They have however caused fucking hundreds....

A popular myth, unless you can post up the statistics that prove it.

Oh, hello.

Rolling Eyes indeed.

Well, we won't bamboozle each other with filthy numbers, but people once they reach the age of 75 are as dangerous, on average [per mile], as newly qualified 17 year-old drivers [...] drivers over the age of 80 have more accidents per mile than any other age group.

Take the fucking statistics elsewhere. We don't care.

This is a thread to show respect to the people closest to the guy who lost his life as the result of a tragic accident. It must be very hard for them.

Show a bit of respect and don't come hijacking this thread, bringing the focus away from the awful loss of this young man and onto some pointless statistics that you've plucked out of thin air.

Fuck off, learn some manners and get a grip......Some people these days Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I had the back of my bike clipped on Wednesday by a 80+ driver in a Toyota Yaris who pulled across 3 lanes to exit Elephant and Castle without looking or indicating. As I saw him turn I also started to turn and accelerate past him, he clipped my exhast and I had a rear end wiggle that wasn't too dificult to save. The point is that he didn't see me next to him on a green ninja and wasn't even aware that he had hit me despite me being between him and the exit he was apparenty taking. (I was 2nd lane from the center of the roundbout out of 4 when level with his exit!!) It also rather surprised the driver 2 lanes to my left taking the same exit as him!

That's per driver, the figures that showed 80+ to be the worst group as posted by Rogerborg were per mile driven.

What do you think is more relevant?

That was 75+...at the bottom it states that 80+ are worse.

That said I've no idea of the veracity of those figures (or yours) so who knows, just going on what was posted.
