Just out of interest..

Ive had a good old thrash of the bike for a while now.. And it got me thinking.. What kind of things should I be looking to do in order to keep my bike in tip top condition after I've been thrashing the nuts off it ?

Don't thrash a cold engine or make it labour.
Service it.

Keep thrashing. Thumbs Up

Change the oil and filter more often than recommended. NEVER thrash it cold and give it a good check over regularly, your chain and sprockets will be taking a beating so don't neglect the lube and adjustment checks.

No, no it never gets thrashed cold..

Just had new back tyre for MOT (who would of thought Brindley honda have cheapest price for fitted tyres).. Got them to grease the chain too.

I will have to get the manual out to find where the filter is Razz

how often should Oil be changed.. & why change it so often ?

Tips from me are:

Let it warm up thoroughly before doing any kind of hard acceleration or taking the revs high, at least 2-3 miles.. but use the temperature gauge on the bike. Also, ride gently for the last couple of miles to let the bike 'cool down' at the end of the ride.

Keep on top of all the service items. Keep the chain adjusted correctly and lubed regularly.

In terms of the servicing, I'd say oil and filter every 3k is the most important. The rest will be detailed in the owners manual.

Fair do's ... the most I do to mine is grease the chain and keep the tires (usually) pumped up.

Having said that, mine's currently out to pasture with a broken exhaust Shifty

I just check the tyres, chain tension and lube the chain about once a week, recently had the oil checked when went in for flat tyre and still good so. I also regularly adjust my rear drum brake as it seems to gradually loosen up over time

Get a manual, a few tools & learn the joys of dirt under your finger nails.
May prevent you waiting on the roadside for those nice men with a recovery truck.

Tighten up/duct tape the bits that start rattling.
WD40 or hammer the bits that get stiff.
Replace the bits that fall off, if it stops the bike from working.
If it makes an unusual noise, wear earplugs.
Pump the tyres up and oil the chain for the MOT.
