Went out for a spin yesterday from Ipswich to Beccles to buy a cup of tea and a sticky bun.
Not a hint of plod until I got on the A143 close to Beccles.
So I had my tea and bun, looked at few bikes parked up, then decided to make my way home.
As I was coming out of Beccles, I saw plod hiding in a side-road.
No problem me-thinks as I was`nt doing anything wrong, so I just continued on my way.
A bit further up the road I see another plod.
Hmmm? me-thinks, possible speed trap?
Not an issue for me cos I`m slow Smile .

Two Scooter boys coming the other way gave me the nod and I tried to indicate to them to slow down.
I gave them the thumbs down sign.
I`m guessing they took it the wrong way by thier gestures Laughing
Oh well, you cant help everybody Smile

If you are on this forum lads? I was trying to help Rolling Eyes

To the two scooter boys:

A biker did that to me on Friday when there was a camera a bit further up the road. I gave him a massive thumbs up in return Smile

Why the thumbs down?? i'd take that the wrong way too!
Speed trap warning from any other bikers or cars up here is usually indicated by a forward arm wave to say slow down.

I thought it was an up-down motion with your hand to tell others to slow down.

I always thought you imitated a garage door opening and closing with your right arm.. Shocked

Or do an action similar to dribbling a basket ball..

Or patting the dog..

Or quickly writing "Slow Down, Police Speed Trap Ahead. Your going too fast! You might get caught, but on your head be it, i did warn you. Oh, by the way, your still indicating aswell." On your Etch-a-Sketch.. we've all done it... right?

And? nowt wrong with it if no one else is there or affected, if there are others there then darwin theories come into play.

Ever thought they sit there as speeds are slower and so more time to react to ANPR hits?

In the main town bit in the one way street, full of old people (God`s waiting room) looking at me as if I had just come from space.
Ended up at Mc Nasty`s as there were a good few bikes there.

Had a white beemer flash me a few weeks ago to warn of fuzz outside of school (don't normally ride at 3:15 but had a late start that day) didn't pick up what the signal was for till after had gone past the fuzz oh well.

Anyway to me the usual signal for police is clenched fist opening and closing like a flashing light.

If I was on a scooter and saw a 'big biker' thumbing me down i'd assume he was saying i'm a cunt for being on a scooter...I think it says more about their self-esteem than yours Laughing

See, I've been warned a few times with flashing of lights and a hand signal like someone imitating someone who talks too much... you know the "blah blah blah" hand signal.

Never had to warn someone before, so god knows what i'd do... might do that head tap Laughing

Everyone I've seen warn me has used the basket ball bouncing type action but with more movement in the forearm than wrist. Slow down type thing.

What I use.

If I get ANY signal other than a nod, from anyone, I slow down.

As a speed trap warning I've had cars flashing lights, slow down hand motions, tapping of the helmet, thumbs down and a flash of the lights with a shake of the head.

I just slow down as a matter of course now, one of them was a car warning me of a truck filled with stones that had gone through a wall and left half of his payload in the road.

I tend to use the slow down hand motion.

i heard that recently there were persons charged with flashing their lights to warn other road users of police speed traps, to be honest i'm unsure what the charge was, but it was in one of our local papers and more than likely has happened elsewhere too.

Did hear that somewhere too... still tempted to get a little wooden/metal plaque with "slow down - popo ahead" to hold up just incase Laughing

I agree.. Give them a slow down sign if anything. Everyone should know it.
