Hi all.

Just to let you know so you don't get stung like me. DO NOT DEAL with this company. I bought a radar detector from them at the Exeter Bikeshow and it wasn't very good so I returned it for a full refund as stated on the website. That was over 3 weeks ago now and I have heard nothing. I have left messages on thier answer machine and emailed but no luck. £220 down the drain Sad

Cheers

Ian

Just some more info on this company:

This company sells radar detectors for cars and motorbikes that detect speed trap devices. The devices are made by Rocky Mountain Radar and the claim is that they detect fixed and mobile speed cameras and hand held laser guns, as well as jam laser guns and camera van located devices. They also sell other devices for which I have no experience of.

This company, which is run by James Holliday and Nicholas Pole, sells these devices on the Internet and also at exhibitions around the country. The company trades under the names of Licencesaver, Noocom and Policestopcamera. The simple fact is that these devices, which are sold for hundreds of pounds, do not work. In my experience they fail to detect any speed cameras and after reading reports on the Internet do not jam any form of laser. BBC Top Gear magazine has also received complaints from people who have had dealings with this company and its products.

If you return the devices the company will NOT refund your money but will keep the unit and probably sell it again to some other unsuspecting individual. I have investigated this company with the Insolvency Service in London and discovered that they have a number of County Court Judgements (CCJs) against them where they have been taken to court but failed to pay money owed.

In case you are interested they do usually show at the NEC bike show.

How are they allowed to show at the NEC or anywhere for that matter, if it's clear they are mis-leading customers on and selling worthless products and not following out customer service laws by ripping people off carelessly.

Surely they'd be shut down by now Confused

Easy they pay their money for a stand and are allowed into the show. I'm sure that the small print on your ticket and their contract will state that the organisers are not liable for the quality of goods offered on any stand.

Big bike shows are there to make money for the organisers, not to make sure that the paying customers get value for money and good service.

Yeah I know that... but I meant more so why haven't trading standards shut them down........ they are obviously trading illegally so I though they'd have been "dealt" with by now.

They probably have been shut down but the robbing bastards more than likely start up again under another name.

If it was me that had been ripped off by them I would go to the NEC bike show and demand my money back or smash up their stand Mad

Unfortunately this company is still trading!

I tried contacting the NEC about this company but they weren't interested.

I also tried contacting Trading Standards to report this company but they seemed completely powerless to do anything. They did say they will investigate companies if they get enough complaints but I think each Trading Standards office is run by the local council so don't have a shared database of complaints and so probably aren't aware of what has been reported to other councils. That's my theory anyway.

Licencesaver do seem to trade under a number of names and the guy who runs it has been in trouble before. See "Up the Pole in Solihull!" in the link below:

https://www.laughingpoliceman.com/court_other.htm

And here's another satisfied customer:

https://www.topgear.com/content/features/stories/radar_detectors/11/

Nick Pole who runs the company also used to sell those flash back number plates which are supposed to emit a bright light when a speed camera flashes so making the photo over exposed! Strange that those things never caught on!
