I know, it just seems odd that people who don't mind wearing hi-vis anyway would wear it on a protest. Laughing.

I understand it's a protest for other things as well, it just seemed funny. Protesting about how they don't want to be made to wear hi-vis yet they are wearing it anyway at the protest. Smile.

I hope that law doesn't get passed as it'll inevitably end up over here and then biking is ruined forever. Laughing.

I have just spent a week in Rouen, during this week I only saw 1 biker wearing hi viz. If it is anything like the french law for stopping at a pedestrian crossing it will be ignored.

Ffs i was in the car and I had to have 2 hi viz vests in the glove box, a set of bulbs and tools for changing the bulbs, beam deflectors, a warning triangle and a recommended first aid kit and fire extinguisher. I had it all but what an arse. From September you will need a portable alcohol test also.

Oh diesel in France is the same price in Euros as in GBPounds!! I paid €1.44 last week a litre at the supermarket.

The french will just ignore this law, don't worry about it.

The French Police won't ignore it though, paying particular attention to bikes with UK registrations!

Once it becomes law in France, the UK will be pressured into following, in order to maintain consistency across the EU.

Just like we also mandate that children need to use rear seats, carry and use a warning triangle, carry spare bulbs, a first aid kit, carry and have a duty to use a fire extinguisher (and to stop and assist at any accident), carry a set of glasses if you wear contact lenses, carry CE approved hi-vis vests in the passenger compartment and put them on at the scene of an accident or breakdown, and levy on-the-spot fines for not carrying your license or log book.

You realise this has a double meaning? 'down with this sort of thing' which some people would think 'do away with this sort of thing' or it could be construed as 'I'm down with this sort of thing' as in, 'this is great, we should all do this!'

So which is it?

Last year they wore hi-viz, completely stopped the motorway at an up-and-over junction, set up an oil drum in lane 2 and proceeded to burn them en masse.

The car drivers who were caught up in the demo applauded and cheered them on.

I didn't even realise you could get these until a few weeks ago. I bought myself one of the couple-of-quid ones from eBay, which can be used more than once, just to be on the safe side. I've often felt absolutely fine whilst being over (what I would guess) to be the legal limit; so if I woke up feeling like that then I wouldn't even realise I was over the limit. Obviously there's the "don't ride within x hours", but for a few quid I'll enjoy the peace of mind. Should arrive soon.

Don't agree with it being forced upon them though. Thumbs Down

Last year I was in Paris trying to filter through the traffic. A lot of smaller bikes and scooters just mounted the pavement and filtered that way. This was all under the nose of the Policeman directing traffic.
