One you took, one is an award winner? I believe #2 is the winner.

Two looks like it was taken with a camera, one looks like it was taken with a phone.

I prefer 2 in this case, but I suspect the extra saturation in 1 might make nicer pictures in a lot of situations.

No1 seems richer where No2 seems washed out.
Both look like Southport beach when the tide is in.

Both are compositionally rubbish in my oppinion.

I preferr 1 because number 2 has had the curves digitally fucked with far too much. The sand in number 1 is sand coloured. The sand in number 2 is slightly blue and washed out looking as if someone has applied a filter to make the sky appear more blue.*

Used to be a fault with film too. Kodak used to put a very deep orange wash over their negative film to make the sky appear more intensely blue on peoples holiday photos. Positive slide film had the advantage of keeping photographers honest.

I have seen sky as intensely blue as that in picture 2 but not very often and only in the very far North of Scotland in the week either side of midsummer.

The levels on this picture have not been altered in any way, it was taken about 30miles North of Ullapool five days after midsummer. A case of nature taking the piss, the sky was so intensely blue, it was painful to look at it without sunglases on.

*If the sky was that blue, there would be intensely black shadows on any impressions in the sand (look at the gravel on the picture above).

I waited for the oil tanker to pass before I took the photo as I found it distracting.

Ah that's the one i was thinking of too. Not really an award winner, not unless you count 'worlds most expensive photo' Laughing

£2.7m seems a reasonable 'award', though of course that wasn't what Gursky got - but suspect it can't harm his career.
Heavily photoshopped, of course. too.

I'm going to guess number 2 was the iphone one (CBA looking at the EXIF data) on the basis that apple design their products for people who can't do stuff for themselves. It would be just like them for their photography products to automatically apply every filter available.

I suppose you should think yourself lucky it dosn't save them as an iPEG that can only be accessed via an iPICTURES website that sells your own pictures back to you.

Quite a blue sky; picture not altered.

However, was taken fairly late with a long exposure (John-o-groats).
