...but don't ride around like you're puttering to the shops.
I find if you push reasonably hard your tyres are up to temperature after a single lap. Lot of people seem to think you need at least 2 which is a big chunk of each session and the reason they do is because they don't push hard enough imo. After a couple of corners brake very hard and accelerate very hard, just don't do it at quite the same lean angles you will once they're hot. They'll be warm in no time.
That said, if you bin it following this advice don't blame me
Also, if it's sunny park your bike outside in the pitlane leaning away from the sun so it's shining on both tyres...sounds stupid but feel how much heat they pick up compared to leaving it in the shaded and (at this time of year) freezing garages. Took my S1000RR on track with 1000miles on it last year. you can read what I did here

I had done plenty of trackdays as well on other bikes but that was my first on the S1K and i tried to hit the same pace as on previous bikes. after reading on the owners forum the suspension needs a tweak for track riding and the stock tyres that BMW supply are utter shite!.
No your not a fool, you buy a bike like this to have fun with and the only place you can really do that (legally) is on track. |

To add to the get quicker slowly - if you're starting to feel problems, back off .
Tyre pressure can go up 5psi when hot, maybe a bit more; can't see it going up anywhere near that much.
However, saying that, the first time I got a 4th place (still my best result, though I got a few more) mid-race I realised my tyres had not been reduced from circa-50psi (as the race tyre places set them high so you can reduce it your desired pressure). Probably around 55psi hot and still managed a decent position.
Oh, just noticed you had continentals. A 'budget' tyre brand I certainly wouldn't trust anywhere near as much I would a Pirelli.
Did use them on one scooter racing thing, but they were the best available for that size and I was taking it easy anyway. |

Itd be cheaper to fit aftermarket electronics to the GSXR.
£1500 for the TCS.
Cant find anything on aftermarket ABS, but im sure you can get it from somewhere.
Fancy.
Still a shame to spend all that money on a fancy bike and only use it on the road, plus your K6 may be mainly used for commuting but you still ride on it track occasionally .

Had it as a 'backup' and ended up needing to use it because of issues with my 675 (exhaust valve problems) - felt really manflu-ridden that day, so was taking it easy anyway.
Can get aftermarket traction control for a fair bit less than that.
ABS is a rather harder proposition (basically have to rip an entire system off another bike) - as is getting the really stupid amounts of power at the rear wheel the S1000RR has at peak revs .
Would have more fun and improve more the SV on track - though for trackdays, may well still prefer the 675 as less worries with slower riders holding you up every corner, then blasting past on the straights. |

My barge of a TL1000R was my favorite bike to ride on track, but then again im a v-twin whore.
My ideal track machine would probably be a 749
On the speed front i think you are right, i just need a little bit more poke than an SV.
