Hi guys and gals - this is my current project;

https://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/416864_235443576551341_100002571026498_445526_502376664_n.jpg

It's a 2002 Aprilia Classic 125 ( from what I can tell and from research - rare as rocking horse crap) which originally had a Rotax122 engine which was blown, so I've bought meself a Jinlun Texan 125 twin cylinder 4 stroke engine to put in it.

Just thought I'd share Smile

EDIT: ammended pic link

haha...pay for the parts for the engine rebuild?!

I would keep it original, but I really can't afford it... I'm on benefits and volunteer 13 hours a day, 5 days a week for a charity/college... the jinlun engine was £50...

and yeah...everyone slates the chinese engines, but they are just as good as any other engine, you just have to look after it more....

If its so rare and your hard up, why not stick an RS125 engine in and sell it on for ££££ ?.

Come off it... any engine you don't maintain is gonna die, the fact that most chinese engine bikes are owned by kids who can't afford the original bike they are copied from usually means they get mistreated, ranted and abused. This is why they die and get a bad reputation. Exactly the same would happen if they bought the cbr instead of the kaisar, or the rebel instead of the texan. If you look after them, they'll go forever too!

If I had the money to stick a rs engine in it, I wouldn't have had to buy the texan engine?!

And the insurance isn't an issue, through MCE they've told me I'll be paying £24 odd first month and £17 odds for 9 months after TPFT (and considering my bans and points I'm bloody amazed at that) on the texan engined classic. The reason I'm "fuckin about with it" is cos I'm making do with what i've got... I bought the bike for £150 with a fecked barrel (needs replating), crank, piston etc. it was cheap and I'm trying to do it cheap.

Fair enough, it is your bike and your money. I can understand your situation so do with it what you will. I will follow your progress. Thumbs Up

Although, I will not accept ever that a Chinese engine covering the same amount of miles as Japanese one will last anywhere near as long. There are several threads on this debate with startling evidence that you can look through and there are many members of the forum that would back this up. However! It much too late to be debating it now.

Get on with the rebuild. Laughing

Id personally buy something like this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aprilia-RS125-Rotax122-engine-/170809688678?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item27c50d0266#ht_500wt_1378

And transfer the good parts from yours into this engine. You will then have a bike worth a lot more come sale with a whole host of spare parts if you have any reliability trouble.

It would also be an AWESOME street sleeper.
