well the name of the thread pretty much sums it up, i have bought a 92 kickstart ns125r-l or should i say ive bought MOST of it. it is missing quite a few bits, which are listed at the bottom of this.
I am 21 years old and i have no idea what to do, im very very short on cash at the moment so any tips on where to get parts on the cheap would b great, or if anyones got any lying around gathering dust going cheap.
basically i need parts and advice, helpful hints, do's and donts etc.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and, as promised, heres the list of parts i think i need:

spindles and bearings (front and back)
clutch cable
throttle cable
chain and sprocket
carb
left hand clip-on
clutch lever
lights (front and back)
indicators
housings for all lights
a kick start lever
air box

thats it (i hope)

again thanks for your time
Bob

You basically have 3 options

Honda/breakers/ebay. listed most expensive first.

(you can get bearings directly from bearing wholesaler substancially cheaper though)

The quicker you want to rebuild, the more it will cost.

If i were you, scour ebay. Search for stuff like "breaking NS125" and email the people who come up like

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-NS125-FRONT-BRAKE-HOSE-BREAKING-4-SPARES-ns-125-/251022616152?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3a721d2658

also you could email this guy

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-NSR-NS-125-KICKSTART-ENGINE-BREAKING-1982-1988-/150772367765?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item231abbc195

he says hes got loads of parts left.

Also always barter on ebay. i dont think ive ever paid what the seller asked

i would buy new with stuff like clutch cables, chain and sprokets.
buy some universal indicators.

for a ball park figure id be setting my self a budget of about 125 -150 for all the bits you mention.

My advice is:

Never buy a bike that is incomplete. It'll never work out cheaper than buying a working bike.

Oh. sorry. Smile

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Are you serious?

There's literally tonnes of parts dead cheap on Ebay at the moment, who wouldn't check there first? Confused

Got any pics?

A rough guide of cost:-

spindles and bearings; £5 SH Spindles, £10 New Bearings
clutch cable; £3 SH, £10 New, (pattern)
throttle cable £5 SH, £16 New
chain and sprocket; £10 - £15 SH, £60 New
carb £5 - £10 SH, A Fortune New
left hand clip-on £5 SH, £35 New
clutch lever £3 SH, £6 New
lights (front and back) £30 SH, Inc Housings
indicators £10 - £15 SH
housings for all lights See Above
a kick start lever £5 SH, £40 New
air box £5 - £10 SH, £50 New

New prices are for the cheaper end.
A lot of parts on bikes wear or rust with age so be careful buying anything with poor photos where you can't see the condition. In my experience, when buying on eBay, parts from private sellers are quite often in better condition. As Monkeyman says, don't be afraid to get in touch and ask for parts, they're not paying ebay fees so may let them go cheaper. Don't "Barter" though, Haggle Very Happy
Laughing 6 years I dealt in parts for these particular bikes, never once have I paid such prices.

There's an airbox for £15 on Ebay right now, posted.
There's absolutely no need to pay £50 new.

Is that a 'plain' clip-on, or sent with wiring and controls, respectively?

Sorry but Ebay is like a shop, you bid what you want to pay.. the idea of haggling is ridiculous and whoever suggested it should be slapped. Laughing

At least; if someone bid on one of my items (or even if they didn't) and tried to haggle I'd simply ignore them. If the item is being sold for a more than it's worth then I won't even entertain the listing.

Just 2p. Karma

I'd pay a decent amount for one of them, mine was feckered when the bike was fired but I have a few rare parts that I'd like to repair & get painted/polished up for both experience doing it and hoarding for people that need them to finish a bike off later down the line. Thumbs Up

Anyone have the front fairing infills? I had some but they have been mislaid over the last 2 years. Crying or Very sad
