Hi as a newbe can anyone help me with a problem with a cbr400 tri-arm I seem to have lost my sparks ie wont start, it began with loseing No 1 pot followed by No 4 and now nothing atall just a big backfire when I try to start it will be very greatful for any help you can give Rob.

Sounds like you flooded the engine hence the backfire, chances are the plugs will have suffered from that but you may get lucky, suggest you leave it for a little while for the petrol in the cylinders to evaporate and maybe try again later.

Have you actually had the plugs out and checked they are sparking (hold by the plug cap with the diode to the engine block and press the starter briefly).

If there is no spark then remove the plug and try another in the plug cap to test it isn't the HT leads or coil pack that is faulty (possibility with age of the bike).

Also the colour of diodes if the plugs are either glazed (lean) or black (rich) then problem could be fuelling related, sounds like it may be too rich from what has been suggested.

cheers guys , the plugs were going to be my first point of attack, yes its got new fuel in and choke not left on so its a strip down tomorrow to see what I can find thanks for the advice and will let you know any progress, cheers Rob
