Just went to fly a big kite in strong winds, kite went up, I shot up in the air and came down smashing my face on the kite bar.

Now have about an inch gash in my left eyebrow.

Just wondering what's the best thing to do. I refuse to go to A&E because it's going to ruin my night sitting there for 5 hours. It's not bleeding that much really, certainly not dripping.

So this is what I'm wondering:

Should I air it so that it turns into a scab

or

Should I try and patch it up somehow?

Do you have a minor injuries clinich nearby? Or is your doctor's surgery still open?

If it is a deep cut you will need to get it either stitched or glued as it is susceptible to infection and may not heal properly if you leave it alone. If you give NHS Direct a bell they may be able to advise you as to the best place to go if you don't fancy the wait in A&E. I personally would go regardless of the wait time as you have a head injury from the kite bar, you may have done a tad more damage than you can see.

No that bad at all.. It can't be a deep gash though it does look pretty tasty.

Um... I live in the mountains so I don't think it will have a minor injuries clinic. I feel totally ok at the moment though so I don't think i'll have a head injury. Think i'll wait a while to see if any dizziness or vomiting etc kicks in. Think it was just more of a sharp smack that gashed it.

I have cleaned it with antiseptic stuff etc.

Just wondering if I should cover it or leave it air for a bit.

If you're near a chemist you might want to get some butterfly stitches. Or you could let it scab and pick it 5 times and look like a badass.

They close at 5:30. I already have one scar on my eyebrow from when I was 4 yrs old, if I add another it's going to look like the zorro mark

Meh. Stick it back together with a bit of Zinc Oxide or Micropore tape. Keep it clean, and you'll be OK, I reckon. If it was deep, you'd be spurting all over the place.

Fnar fnar.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, if it was needing attention then it'd be pissing blood everywhere.

Ok cool i'll zinc it up. Thanks.

If you split your head open then you definitely have a head injury already Wink

If you are going to MTFU and deal with it yourself watch out for any blurred vision, nausea, dizzyness and headaches as it is a sign of concussion. It will heal faster if it is left open but it will heal more neatly if you draw the edges of the wound together with micropore tape as suggested above.

Im a marvel with butterfly strips, I use them over getting stitched for most minor wounds in non bendy places, brilliant things they are.

Don't worry about it, chicks dig scars and all that.

I hit myself in the face on Sunday with part of a chair that I had attacked with a sledge hammer Rolling Eyes . I had a 3/4 inch deep cut on my chin that bled for about 20 minutes. I pushed the two sides together and put some tape from the first aid kit on it. Five days later and it has healed up nicely. Should scar up nicely, I'm looking forward to the predicted shagathon this weekend.

Either sew it yourself or if you find working in a mirror confusing get a mate to stitch it for you.

Make butterflies out of tape, gaffa works nicely, or superglue it, if you use glue leave a little hole unglued for mank to escape from.

Can't you just tie some eyebrow hairs together across the gash?

Ready made stitches! Thumbs Up

The worry with eyebrows is that the skin is pulled tight there and a deep cut will tend to gape.
So it is likely to need some sort of taping together.

You are taking a risk of something going wrong like infections setting in near your eye, but it won't come to any great harm just covered overnight.
Have a proper look in good light tomorrow.

Almost any injury will heal itself one way or another but on your face you need to be careful or you might end up looking like Quasimodo when there's no need. Sick

not a bad idea on head wounds as they close up when they hit bone and bone is near the surface on an eyebrow, just use it open or get a wall stapler.
