Engine cleaning

OK I'm just full of silly questions I know, and I'm sure this would be obvious to someone who does this day in and day out... but here goes.

I'm stripping down a couple of 50cc engines (right into the guts of them), and one of the problems I've thought of is the possibility of some dirt, small stones or similar stuff getting inside the engine (taking every precaution, but it can still happen), before throwing everything back together what's best for cleaning everything up?

I'm sure a stray stone rattling round at a couple of thousand RPM's ain't going to be to healthy. I was thinking of either something like carb cleaner to wash it all out or could I just use some white spirit then shit loads of oil to rinse it then throw it back together and hope for the best?

You're stripping them down to bare bones? Give them a thorough jetwashing with the most powerful jetwash you can find.

I use my normal hobby-sized jetwash but I prime it with the hose from the tap then put the intake pipe into a bucket with a strong solution of TFR (water-soluble degreaser) and hot water. Blast that all over until the bucket is empty, leave to soak for 15 mins then hook the jetwash up to the tap and blast again.
